New eBay Security Procedure, or Invasion of Privacy?

Security Procedure or Invasion of Privacy?

I am set to go on my vacation tomorrow. 1st in 5 years.

So had one last item turn up in the mail today, so I wanted to make sure and leave feedback for it. An ALERT message is up when I sign in, telling me about this new security procedure ebay is going to start using. Except, everything in it wont work for me. So I have sent them a message. But my hope is others here and those connected to ebay will see this.

The new procedure? If you use more than one computer to list items as a seller, they are going to figure that out, and then to verify its you they are going to call you at the number you have on file with them.

No really thats what it says!

So first, me? I use dial up. So the only number on file is the one I am using. Now wait, people I signed up for DSL last August. Still waiting. They keep saying just a few weeks. So the workaround ebay suggests, oh just give us your mobile phone number.

Okay #1 I dont have a cell phone, #2 I dont want to get a cell phone #3 if I did have a cell phone I wouldnt want ebay taking away my minutes to verify who I am.

But then when I think about this, the privacy thing. I dont mind that they are concerned who might be uploading under my user ID. But this just seems like a giant invasion of my privacy.

So ebay community am I wrong here? I have reasons why I dont havee a cell phone, for starters its Alaska. I am in a more Rural part. So in town it works, but when I would need it most is on the road, and we dont have cell towers here everwhere like you do in the lower 48. So if you want total coverage, you really need a satellite phone. Well sorry I dont have $1500. for one of those.  But the fact I would almost never use it, seems like enough justification. (Not that I should have to explain that) But ebay I mean is this that big a deal? If so the only way you can verify who someone is, is to call them?
