Promise Small - Deliver Big

Here on eBay, a lot is based on what we say to one another. Communication is key. Buying and selling on line, you meet all types. Here is a little trick we learned that keeps customers happy: Promise Small, but Deliver Big.

Let's say a person wins your auction. The auction states that you will ship items within 3 business days via US Priority Mail. That's a decent pocket of time for seller to get off their butt and ship off any item that sells on eBay.

However, if you wait two weeks before you ship the item, the customer will be so angry, because they were willing to wait up to the three days mentioned in the ad, but expected to be holding said object in a week's time.

Instead if your auction states shipping will be within 3 business days, and you take the effort to ship it out the very next day after the auction closes, the customer will be pleasantly surprised to receive their item earlier. It makes your customer service seem so fast. They have the item in their hands before your terms state you'd even ship it out.

However, we do not ever promise to ship any item out next day, just in case something comes up. One never knows. So it's best to give oneself a little slack so that the customer is not dissapointed. Just always try to better any promise, and not the other way around.

People don't mind a nice surprise. It's funny how an item won on eBay reflects the whole experience once the buyer receives the item. If the transaction was effortless, both parties communicate fast and easy, and all terms stated on auction are met by seller and buyer, when that object shows up at the door, folk tend to hold the item in esteem. The very same item, when communication breaks down, stands for that failure, and even though it may be a great item, that great item now reminds them of a bad experience. Perceived value is just that, the "good vibes" or "bad vibes" a transaction leaves you with.

A sheep in wolf's clothing?

We have had the most difficult time finding an authentic Abercrombie and Fitch "Wolf Jaw" faux fur lined hoodie jacket. We want a size Medium in brown, but none of the coats we have purchased on eBay were authentic. We have purchased on two occassions, from different sellers, each with perfect feedback score, and each promised up and down it's authentic.

Now we know better. You see, we already have a Wolf Jaw jacket in grey direct from the Abercrombie web site to compare any coat we receive from an auction. J wants one in brown, and it's hard to find on eBay since they were discontinued at the A & F site.

The way to tell a fake is pretty much do an eBay search on eBay for Abercrombie Wolf Jaw, and everything that comes up is a fake. Notice how many auctions are using same photo of coat with white background. That's the actual copyrighted image from Abercrombie's site, which should tip one off, since using copyrighted material is against eBay's terms of service. So I assume any seller with that photo up front is already breaking at least one rule.

I look for the ads where the seller takes their own photos. The more crappy the photo, the more I trust that the item is real. I want to see the coat draped over a bed with photos of all it's tags, logos, and zipper tab. It seems that the fakes have the zipper tab on the users left side, as the two fakes we got are that way. We just contact the seller, return the fake coat and get our money back.

If you have a size MEDIUM Abercrombie Wolf Jaw coat, let us know. Brown is a real plus, but hey, dark grey looks great too. Will we ever find the real deal, or just another sheep in wolf's clothing?

Out of the closet

So "M" is making me clean out the closet of all the clothing that we never wear before I get to go out and buy more. There's all this stuff at the Hollister Co website I want to get, but it's true, I have no room for anything else. Be sure to check out the stuff we have up right now, because it's a giant collection of Abercrombie, Hollister, LL Bean, and other top brands of stuff that didn't fit us. See ya! - "J"
