Remember...An apple a day :)

When should a child be tried as an adult?

I'm sure when you read the paper, you've come across a child committing a crime. Some of these crimes are very violent . For example, premeditated murder. But what if the child was playing russian roulette with a loaded gun his parents had and accidentally shot his friend? What if a child pushed another child down the stairs because he was angry and that other child died? Would you judge differently if the child were 8 years old compared to 12?

I think there is a huge gray area when it comes to a child being tried as an adult. I do believe that some children know in their minds what they did was wrong but do not look at the whole future 'picture' of the crime. I also believe that if someone is murdered regardless of who does the murder, that person needs to be punished. But how do you punish an 8 year old?

Just curious on your views and if you look at my new items, I've gone PIGGY! oink oink oink!

I believe that is a touchy situation that really has no age in my opinion.I feel after the proper evaluation has been done to determine their mentality (ie is their mentality up to children their own age or younger). If they think like a little one, then obviously they really do not know the difference between right from wrong and should not be tried as an adult.hope that makes sense, not much coffee in me yet lol

I mean seriously yeah most parents/adults tell children when they are doing something bad or see something bad that is wrong and I am sure they kinda grasp the concept okay they say that is wrong but do they really understand how wrong it is and what kind of consequences doing something bad can lead too.I honestly don't think they do

a dear friend of mine had 4 sons, one hung around the wrong crowd. and got into some big trouble with involvement of a killing. the mom in the end felt like she did something wrong raising him. which she didnt the other kids are great. But she also said he should pay for his crime, no matter how much it hurted. because the person can never come back. this kid caused embaressment to the family, news, etc. they then moved and i never saw my friend again. where she is i dont know, but I do know she holds guilt in her for thinking she raised a monster. the boy was 16.
as far as younger kids?? I dont know, sometimes they get into trouble by trying to be cool, and it backfires.

my opinion is though even if they are little and they do something really bad, something should be done about it.

definitely a child should have to pay the consequences. It must be very hard to be a judge let alone a jury who has to try a 13 year old for murder. Like you said, what if the 13 year old has the mentality of a 5 year old? It is a very tough situation to deal with. Fortunately I haven't nor do I know anyone who has had to deal with this. Thats a blessing I can count.

wow what a question , any time their is a child involved its sticky and all kids are brain dead and should not be held accountable for things they seem to make right in their minds . they live in fantasy land till their 25 yrs of age most the time and then they most generally regret what they've done. yes they think they know so much and some do how ever its like speeding recklessly down the road they do a lot and after 25 they think oh my god i could of killed myself about 30 they think of others. a lot of people think juvenile detention centers are fun and games how ever they are full of some of the most ruthless people alive and a lot of times their own parents may have influenced that and be the nicest , hard working people their is maybe something medical affected them at birth so the list can go on on so again what are we gonna do locking them up is wrong but if they dont respond to the general rules and laws of the land ??
