Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees RivalryPosted Apr-11-08 16:17:59 PDT Why has Major League Baseball decided that everyone in this nation enjoys watching a Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees game? MLB tells us it one of the great rivalries in baseball - if not in all of sports. Every time these two teams meet up they seem to always be on ESPN (guess what, it is the Sunday night game of the week this week) and Fox Saturday game of the week - in most if not all markets nationwide. I am not a fan of ether the Boston Red Sox or the New York Yankees what makes you think I want to watch them play? Besides, is this really a good rivalry? I say no! Most rivalries in baseball have gotten out of hand and I feel baseball itself is egging on the problem. Lets look at the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants rivalry - which started when these two teams played in Brooklyn and New York (respectively) 50 years ago. My first question is why did this rivalry even move acoss country with these two teams? This is an example of a rivalry that needs to be stopped. When fans have shot and killed each other in the teams parking lots over the rivalry. This is way out of hand and needs to end. When I first moved to Northern California I met a guy who was a friend for a while, who took me to a Giants Dodgers game. I will admit it, I wore a Giants hat at the game - I figured if I live in Northern California I should support the regional teams. I was so embarrassed by how the fans acted at the game =- yelling, cursing, shouting obscenities to the players, drinking and getting rowdy - and seriously I was in the "family" section. I removed my Giants hat, sat on in from sheer embarrassment and then threw it in a trash can on the way out of the park. The league is even trying to create rivalries that are not there naturally. They are calling games such as the St. Louis Cardinals/Kansas City Royals a Missouri rivalry. Come on guys, if there is going to be a rivalry, el the fans and players create it - not MLB. In my opinion the best rivalry in baseball is the rivalry between my St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs . Sure we all root for our favorite team, but we do not act like the Giants fan I witnessed at the game I attended in San Francisco.! What will I e doing during the Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees game? Working on my wife's web site until the St. Louis Cardinals game becomes available on the MLB gameday archives
