Most Recent Posts A Confession on my Last Post - "The Invisible Killer" / New SYI FormPosted Jun-04-07 18:58:52 PDT Last month, I posted an article on "The Silent Killer". If
you haven't read that post, wonder on over
here and read it first. Read it carefully and see
if you can figure out what it's talking
about. Read that importaint entry before reading this next part. Dihydrogen monoxide has the chemical formula of HOH or to simplify it a bit more - H2O. Yes, it's about water. Isn't it amazing how you can take something that is good, and make it sound like something really bad? I was amazed when I first read that. You are more open to manipulation then you think. Now shifting attention to the new SYI form...I have been avoiding using it as it always screwed up my HTML when I copied it out of an HTML editor, and it wasn't because I was using code that shouldn't be there. It was because I was using some inline CSS. Since we are now forced to use it, I have found a solution after some trial and error. I realized it was because I had tabs and extra spaces in the code (I don't get it either). All I had to do to fix that was take out all the extra white space. If you don't know how to do that in your program, I made a tool on my website that can do it for you. I will be using it myself for all my listings. Wonder on over to this page to use it. Don't worry, I do not archive the code that goes into that form, it just reformats it and sends it back to your browser. Why "Shipping and handling charges" Don't Belong in the New Rating SystemPosted May-29-07 14:39:12 PDT Basically, to put it in a nutshell, I believe that "Shipping and handling charges" don't belong in the new rating system. The first three categories in the new Feedback system ("Item as described", "Communication", & "Shipping time") make sense. Why? Because before I make a purchase, I am not sure weather the item will be as described, weather the seller will communicate well, or weather they will ship in a timely matter. With the new feedback system, I can see if my seller has a good track record in those areas. What I do know is weather or not the shipping & handling charges is fair. The point of the system is to give buyers confidence that the seller is good or warn them that they are not. Shipping charges are shown in the listing so you know what they are before hand. If the charges are good, bid. If they are not, don't bid. When I make purchases, the "Shipping and handling charges" make no leverage because I know what the charges are. What about the sellers that don't disclose their shipping costs? Well, if that's the case, then you should contact the seller for a quote before committing to a purchase anyway. The Invisible KillerPosted Apr-05-07 21:20:37 PDT I found this article on the Internet. You can find many publications by searching "Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide" on any major search engine. Be sure to post a comment after you read this article and say what you think about it. Never Get Hijacked AgainPosted Mar-16-07 14:01:31 PDT Sometimes having a secure password isn't enough. You constantly have to be on the lookout for spoof emails, fraudulent websites, viruses, and trojans. Even the most cautious people are getting their eBay and PayPal accounts hijacked. Now, there is a way to bring that to a screeching halt. The PayPal Security key is the answer to keeping your account safe. The good news is that it works for both your eBay and PayPal accounts, and it's free for PayPal business accounts! (other members only pay $5) Here's how it works: You order the key, and activate it when it comes in. Then, whenever you sign in on eBay or PayPal, it will ask you to get a six-digit number from this device. That number will only work for 30 seconds, so if you give it to a crook on a spoof page, it won't work by the time they get to it, and your account is safe! This device is very compact as well, I carry it with my flash drive, and as you can see, it's no bigger than the flash drive. ![]() One more tip: some people find it inconvenient to have to sign in and then enter the code on a separate page. You actually don't have to. Instead, you can append the six-digit number to your password every time you sign in. For example, let's say my password is 'bob' (it's not). With this security key, I would sign is as 'pr0gr4mm3r', and type in 'bob587548' for the password if '587548' was the code from my security key. From Halloween to ChristmasPosted Nov-01-06 15:57:32 PST So I was at Wal-Mart, and what I saw just shows the proof that the holiday season is their favorite. I figured I wold find discounted candy and other Halloween items, but nope. All have been removed from the shelves and Christmas items are already up. In fact, I saw Christmas trees and inflatable Santa Clauses a couple weeks ago in stores, so they definitely waste no time. It almost seems as if it's too early. Here's something to think about though. Obviously, if you are reading this, you probably do a lot of your holiday shopping online. How does that compare to how you did your shopping 10 years ago? How about 5 years ago? I also wonder how much the brick-and-mortar stores are affected by the increasing amount of online sales each year. |
