Most Recent Posts Fall 2006, It’s all About the ColorPosted Oct-02-06 13:06:22 PDT ![]() If you’re starting to feel a chill in the air, then you’re feeling the same thing I am – fall is really here! The month of September is coming to an end, while autumn comes to its peak. As the trees are turning their beautiful autumn colors, so the colors and shapes of the fashions of the season are changing and evolving. WHAT’S HOT THIS FALL This year, styles from years ago are again at the top of the “must-have” lists for fall fashion. Leggings and knits are definitely leading the way. Leggings were one of the top fashion icons of the 1980’s and they’re back again. For me, it’s just not going to happen, but it sure is fun to see all the young girls dressing up like I used to in high school! On the other hand, I’m certainly happy about seeing knits popping up everywhere! They’re comfortable, stylish and not too pricey. COLORS COLORS COLORS! Last season's white sensation has made a bold turn with red taking over as the “hot” color for this fall season. Whether you find it in shades of cherry, cranberry, or tomato, red will always turn heads. It’s classy, easy to accessorize, and always available. Excerpted. Yes, I’m being a little more serious than my normal column about fashion, jewelry, and celebrities. But...it’s around this time of year that I always think a little extra about my uncle and friend, David, who passed away in 1991. Our family has always been pretty tight-knit – and Jenny (my aunt) and David, being only about 12 years older than me were more like close friends and mentors than your standard aunt and uncle. They dated forever and got married at the ripe-old age of 18, and were always smiling and laughing together. I remember learning all kind of things from both of them. Jen taking me showing me the "right" way to put on my lipstick. David calling that bad 6th grade “boyfriend” a jerk and making me feel better. Just all-around good memories. Well, the “big D” (as his buddies used to call him) joined the Army right out of high-school and always told me just amazing stories. He got injured pretty bad in the first Gulf War, and…he was sent home. Seemed like he was going to recover, but things got pretty rough in the next few months. I was still pretty young (don’t want to totally give away my age!), and unfortunately, he passed away on November 11, 1991 – coincidentally enough, on Veteran’s day. Yes, a sad story, but the years have passed, and Jen and I and the rest of our immediate family always spend Veteran’s Day together. We exchange little gifts, share some quiet times, a couple of tears and a bunch of laughs together. Excerpted. Read Full Article Here: Making Time for DaddyPosted Sep-21-06 15:54:11 PDT ![]() Dads are NOT easy to buy for. Generally there are two kinds of dads in the world: the Dad who doesn’t want anything because he buys everything himself and the Dad who doesn’t want anything because he prefers the thing he’s already had for 30 years. My dad falls into the second category. It’s not that my dad doesn’t have or like nice things, he just doesn’t see the need for new nice things, so as his birthday was quickly approaching this year I found myself stumped: what to get dad? Grandpa’s Watch I remember grandpa’s gold pocket watch. He’d wear the watch on special occasions. Grandpa wore the watch for style rather than utility. Grandpa was a fisherman. He didn’t give a damn about time and had no use for a watch. Nonetheless, he wore that watch. Even in his wedding picture you can see the watch chain peeking from his vest. Gold Watch Mystery Rumor has it grandpa got his gold watch before coming to America. Rumor has it said watch was a trade. Rumor has it grandpa was bootlegging and the watch was payment. Rumor has it the watch owner was no small potato. Rumor has it the watch owner came looking for the watch some years back and grandpa wouldn’t give the watch back. Grandpa was tough. Grandpa liked his watch. ... Excerpted. Read full essay here: Guide to Wedding RingsPosted Sep-20-06 10:52:19 PDT Choosing a wedding ring is important! Sure there was that failed Simple Life sitcom attempt, but again, we all know that if Nicole Richie didn’t have the daddy that she has and Paris Hilton didn’t have the daddy that she has, they’d both probably be hooking down on Hollywood Blvd as we speak. Of course, recently, poor Nicole Richie’s claim to fame has apparently become anorexia. Not that this is a good thing, but the pop princess has at least made such a spectacle of herself (and taken such a beating in the media) that maybe she will be an example to girls and teens of what not to become….too skinny. Again I’m blown away by the fact that people like Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have become famous simply because they come from filthy rich stock.
