Hey Tell Me About Your Mystery Auction Experiences...

We all know they are no longer allowed on ebay but some people like myself do "Grab Bags" or what not (But I'm not a scumbag). There used to be tons of mystery auctions and don't get me wrong, there were some that were legit and sold as promised, but this one time i did one, the lady sends me two of the tiniest items she could find in her collection and sends them to me.

I was soooo upset and asked for a refund, of course she didn't wanna do it and  I didn't wanna argue so I just left it at that. Tell about your mystery auction experiences if you have any whether they're good or bad.

Ummm you might want to be careful about posting one blog on the front page at a time...people tend to get a bit upset if you post more...

That's why I was always leary of mystery auctions. I won a couple here on the blogs which were really good, but you get to know the sellers here. One was a box with contributions of soaps, candles, skin care, etc., all donated by bloggers, so you can't go wrong with that. But basically, I want to KNOW what I'm getting. Some sellers will throw in stuff they couldn't sell. Who wants that?

people put the box/envelope etc up for auction..they put in the rules and explanation that "they are bidding on the box and that all things in it are free" then they give a list of what TYPE of items they are going to enclose..it;s cute..and everyone knows what they mean..they know they aren't geting a box alone..or envelope alone..it;s really neat to see how they word it..

but i cannot recall what they call it..i see them under whatver category i am looking in..for instance when looking up makeup items..i would come to alot of them that said box of makeup...and then as you read it would say plainl because of ebays ruls you are bidding on the empty box only and then it would tell you how much money worth of free stuff woule be in it..

I was selling only Mystery Auctions, up until a few days ago. It doesn't matter how you word it... it will be pulled by Ebay. I did mention all the of the above, so there weren't any confusions. I would make it clear that they were "technically" only bidding on a box but the value of the contents would be greater (MUCH Greater) than the winning bid.

See, I did my homework before selling them, I bought a few to see what the "Jist" was all about... and yes some, but very few, were horrible. Then again, I must say, most were great! So great, that I started selling them myself. I mantained my Power Seller Status, have had numerous repeat buyers and not one neg feedback in 5 years. I just do not understand why these have been banned... it's ridiculous!! At least give us an explanation!!! I am so upset that I can no longer list mine, like another poster noted, they were so much fun to fill! I would double and many times triple the retail value of an auction. So obviously it wasn't about the money because my profit was so minimal... but a wonderful hobby for a stay at home mother of two. Luckily, I have acquired a valuable clientel from Ebay and am still selling... unfortunely for them, they will no longer be reaping the benefits! Not that Ebay cares anyway!

My mystery auctions have almost always been a very pleasent experience and I have went back to some sellers for some more mystery boxes too. The ones that are having soaps and jewlrery in them are great I am always adding to my bath care collections and the jewlery ones really helped build my inventory to start selling on ebay. there was only one that was kinda well not exactly junk but wasnt what i had in mind to recive either all the things in that box are listed in my ebay store and some have sold already. i really do wish there was some kind of explanation as to why the mystery auctions have been pulled I talked it over with relatives who also sell on ebay and they all said it was probably someone that went over the edge and ruined it for everyone. I do have some kind of a mystery auction going on called a canister of mystery gifts i have listed all of the items enough to go by ebay rules but to still give the winning bidder surprises. best of luck to evryone on their selling and bidding.
