Most Recent Posts Be an aware buyer of artifacts or be taken to the cleanersPosted Jun-25-06 01:50:50 PDT Updated Jun-26-06 03:43:08 PDT Since I took a beating at the hands of these scammers selling modern made points as real, old, artifacts I have made it a mission to try and counter some of these folks by getting the word out. A new and very valuable resource has been created by Loyd Doty and is available for free. It's a buyers guide. You can find it by first checking him out. His user id is Pharaoh4. This guy knows WAY more than I do and I would have PAID to learn what he's giving away! I would like to thank him from the bottom of my wallet! I am a beginner knapper who took up the craft so that I could better identify modern made points from old ones. I know it sounds strange, a guy who is railing against sellers who sell modern made points goes on to make them himself. The difference is this...I'd never try to get someone to think that anything I make is old and NONE of my stuff will be for sale as authentic...someday I hope to have enough skill to make points that look good enough that someone may think they are worth owning. Several folks on ebay make and sell modern points as modern and I have bought some and am quite proud to own them. It's another thing entirely to lie to people and steal their money selling moderns as authentic, old pieces. I'd like to name names, but I can't since rules would make me the bad guy. Just like criminals have more rights in this country than victims, I can't tell you who these rip offs are, OR I WOULD! .They don't care a rats' rear end about history or native cultures--only MONEY! I hope some of them try to dispute what I say...I'd love to have that debate. Some of these guys will get very mad if you challenge them as to authenticity, a sure sign you are on the right track. Don't bid on anyones' stuff if they can't reply to a simple question with a polite answer. |
