Most Recent Posts unscrupulous coin dealers !!!!!!Posted Sep-03-06 11:06:41 PDT Updated Sep-03-06 11:08:08 PDT Have you had any experiences with an unscrupulous coin dealer ? Many times I`ve seen coins listed that have been grossly over graded, harshly cleaned, or just down right fakes. Most of which had no indication of defects listed in their description, or were advertised to mislead the buyer into believing the coins were genuine. The vast majority of these coins were "raw" (meaning they had not been encapsulated, certified-authenticated and graded by a professional grading service). A coins grade is the condition and the amount of detail that remains compared to an identical coin when it was first minted. Grade is given on a 70 point scale with 1 being the lowest or worst condition and 70 being the best or absolute perfect condition with many intermediate grades in between. The grade of a coin is in direct relation to a coins market value. In several instances there are huge differences in values seperated only by a very slight difference in grades. This is an area where these dealers exploit the less knowledgable. |
