Archive - November 2006 American HeroesPosted Nov-13-06 10:39:44 PST Cmdr Michael S Speicher and SSgt Keith "Matt" Maupin are just two of the many thousands of veterans who have served in the middle east. But these two are differant as they are the only two members who are unaccounted for. Cmdr Speicher served during Operation Desert Sheild and SSgt Maupin during the current Gulf War. I am asking you to pray with me, that these two men may at last be returned to their homeland and families. It is through the actions of brave men like these and countless others, that the rest of us live free. We can sleep soundly, knowing that this land is protected by the worlds finest military.
Cmdr Michael S Speicher was born and raised in the mid-west. Upon graduating college, Speicher join the Navy and became a pilot. Upon completion of training, he was assigned to an aircraft carrier. There he became proficient at piloting the Navy’s F-18 Hornet. His ship was deployed to the middle east for Desert Shield. On the opening night of hostilities, Cmdr Speicher’s plane was hit by a surface to air missile. It is unknown if he was able to eject. No evidence has yet surfaced to conclusively say whether Cmdr Speicher was killed or captured on that night nearly 16 years ago. His family bravely waits for any news about their beloved family member.
On April 9,2004, his convoy came under heavy fire. Matt and another Army personnel along with 7 civiain contraters were captured. 8 of the 9 people have since escaped or been confirmed killed. Only Matt remains unaccounted for. His family struggles to get through each day while waiting on word of Matt’s return. Several days following his capture, a video showed Matt with his captures. He appeared well and unharmed. About 3 months later, another video was aired which reportedly showed Matt being executed. Officials have not been able to determine that the person in the video was Matt. Currently, he is the only person unaccounted for in the current war. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Their families have nothing to celebrate. Born July 13, 1983 Keith Mathew Maupin was just an average person. He was on the high school football team, but wasn’t the star. He wasn’t valedictorian of his graduating class. He was just average, like most of us are. But Matt had a love of family, a love of country, a love of God. He wanted to serve his country, and has done so honorably. On April 9,2004, his convoy came under heavy fire. My Brain Is FriedPosted Nov-10-06 14:43:09 PST For the last couple of days, I have studied hard, trying to learrn HTML coding. Despite what my kid's say, I have proof that I have a brain.
There are so many variables, but it is slowly sinking in. I found a good online interactive tutorial that I have been using. As I am going along in the tutorial, I am creating a practice web home page. I am stuck right now trying to change colors. I want the text on the top half of the page to be one color and the lower half to be a differant color. Whatever I make the top half is what the whole page is like. Oh well, give my brain a rest and I will go back at it. I have taught myself two other programming languages and I'll learn this one eventually.
Hope y'all are doing great and making lots of money. I see where Danna has the blog cookbook ready. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but plan to this evening. Now she is starting on the Christmas Edition of the cookbook. She is always into something or other. Gal, I appreciate all you do. Danna is just one of the many nice people I have met here on the blogs. This is a great place to just sit back, kick your shoes off, and relax a while.
God bless all of you. Think I will go watch some TVSorry I Haven't Posted Much The Last Couple Of DaysPosted Nov-08-06 22:32:11 PST As anyone who has blogged here much knows, I have ALS. The last couple days, the pain level has been pretty high. I took an extra morphine pill a bit ago and it is starting to ease up a little. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi and explain why I may not answer many people. Thanks, Y'all are the greatest. I Agree With StevePosted Nov-08-06 09:22:08 PST Leaving a post that is nothing but an advertisment in another person's blog is just plain rude. If I say something in a post about needing something and someone has what I want, that is one thing. But if I'm just talking about the weather or anything else the last thing I want is for someone to say come visit my store I have all kinds of great stuff. I hate telemarketers. I hang up on them everytime. If I don't invite you in my house you best not come in without knocking. I have no problem with a person advertising in their own blog. You have a right to talk about anything you want as long as it isn't talking trash. And it is my choice if I read that post or not. Thanks for letting me vent a little. Oh not quite done yet. Don't use my feedback as an oportunity to advertise yourself. My feedback is supposed to be about me and how well I kept up my end of the deal. OK now I'm done. lol Now having said that if you want to leave that ad, go ahead but you will get a nastygram in the mail. Fair enough. TestEbay Loses A Great SellerPosted Nov-06-06 15:58:12 PST Following a month long battle, Rex Smith passed away. My prayers and condolences are with his family. He will be missed. Until his illness, he had never had a negative feedback. Mine was one of the very last items he mailed out. Rex was a fine man and a fine Ebayer. It was a pleasure doing business with him. It's Hoops Time In KentuckyPosted Nov-06-06 05:25:02 PST Another November is here and that can only mean it is time for those Kentucky Wildcats to take to the court. Go Big Blue. Having a Hard Time Picturing ItPosted Nov-05-06 16:52:01 PST I have been sitting here trying to get an idea of what things must be like for the "Matt" Maupin family. Especially at this time of year. Not having any word on their son since he was captured on Apr 9, 2004. That is outside of one video showing him seated on the floor surrouned by 5 armed men. And another video played in Arab countries that showed a man kneeling before his captures and then the station saying that they will not show the rest of the tape because it shows the man being executed. From the video, it can't be determined if the man was Matt or not. The not knowing his fate must be terrible for his family. Try as I might, I can't imagine that. If he is dead, let them produce the body. If he is alive, at least let the family know. His family must be afraid to turn the TV on, and afraid not to. I hope they have a deep faith in God as that is all that will sustain them through this nightmare of an ordeal. My prayers are with Matt and his family. Here Is An IdeaPosted Nov-05-06 15:02:17 PST If your local National Guard or Reserve unit has been deployed overseas, see if you can get the address for the commander. Then get with the people in your area and put together a Care package and send it over there. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive. Just everyday stuff that any of those people can use. Or maybe y'all pitch in and buy them a cd player or something that can be placed in the dayroom for all to use. Maybe some homemade cookies would be nice too. Just an idea to kick around. Another way we can show our support for them. Believe, I know from experience what a moral booster it is. Need HelpPosted Nov-05-06 13:08:06 PST Can anyone tell me how to add music to your blog posts? With the holidays coming up, I thought I might try adding some of my favorite songs of the season. It Is A Beautiful Lord's DayPosted Nov-05-06 07:02:57 PST The sun is shining. The trees are in full color. I have my blog friends around me. The day is perfect. Thank you Lord for everything. Finally Got My Thanksgiving Banner DonePosted Nov-04-06 21:03:10 PST Finally came across some decent clipart for the holidays and made this banner. I always look forward to this time of year. After the holidays though I am ready for spring. Been a lot colder than normal for this time of year. I hope the winter isn't too bad. We are due one. Haven't had a bad winter in about six or seven years. What I dread the most is the ice storms. The last few really bad ones just barely missed us by maybe 30 miles. Going to have to take a break for my handsPosted Nov-04-06 12:56:57 PST Been typing a bit too much and have my hands hurting due to my illness. So I will see y'all later. Just need to rest them a little. Did You KnowPosted Nov-04-06 11:40:32 PST We still have one man missing from the first gulf war. He is Lt Cmdr Michael S Speicher. In the opening rounds of the fight, He failed to return to his ship, the USS Saratoga. The story gets blured from there as to whether he was killed or captured. No evidence of his remains has ever surfaced.Officially, he is listed as Missing In Action. His family has been kept wondering for 15 years now. My prayers go out to his family. ThanksgivingPosted Nov-04-06 11:09:57 PST This year when you sit down to eat that Thanksgiving meal, be sure to give extra thatks to those men and women who have devoted their lives ( some literally ) to keeping us free and safe. God bles our militray. Hope everyone Is Having A Great WeekendPosted Nov-04-06 10:38:49 PST It's a beautiful day here in central Kentucky. Sun's out, temp about 52.
