Alcatraz "The San Francisco treat"Posted Apr-19-08 19:50:01 PDT Updated Apr-19-08 20:03:04 PDT Well as far as the food goes, there is NONE to be had, so bring your own! Try to remember all the suffering and death that this place is all about. The guest were given single cells side by side each about 7 feet by 4 feet in space. Of course there is the dank solitary confinment cells, where many a federal guest died. The voyerism of the tourist is revolting, to them this is just a lark. However, I must say I have had worse accomodations than are at the federal Holiday Inn at Alcatraz. (See The Octagon) Of course the view of San Francisco is nice, just enough to torture the mind with thoughts of freedom never to be. The climate is the worst, cold mist and fog envelop the place most of the time...good for catching pneumonia and kicking the bucket. The Feds keep the place up and very clean, unlike the smells and screams one would have had during this old lady's heyday. Anyway, this was another interesting stop in the Gulaug Americana. By the way Alcatraz means Pelican in English. In honor of this I am sure California's worst new super max prison is called "Pelican Bay". Anyway, happy trails..... Ms. Traci :o)
