Freak shows are entertaining to somePosted Aug-04-06 09:42:07 PDT Hobbs, New Mexico 1950 Before television spread into every home, our only source of entertainment was the local movie theatre. Since we did not own a car in 1950, we walked about a mile to the show as we called it, and then afterwards we walked back home. We were young and the night times in New Mexico are cool even in the summer. Stars fill the skies. We attended a carnival with rides and a tent show one evening and were facinated by the Freak Show that had a giant baby, fireeaters, strong men and strong women and many others. About a week after the carnival, a freak show was to be shown at our local picture show. We looked forward to going, and again were more than facinated by what we saw. We saw a man without arms or legs who crawled around like he was a worm. The show featured other freaks such as a part man and part woman, two headed dogs, turtles, and giant zebra stripes, blind drivers, and a gorilla with a human head of a man. We still laugh about the freak show at the movies, and hope they do not put such shows on TV, especially the six legged dog. Perhaps there is a bit of freaks in all of us, and how others judge that everyone is a freak but them, but they may be a little freakish as well. This is not a truy story and any truth is coincidental |
