TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!Posted Aug-03-07 08:04:19 PDT Updated Aug-03-07 08:32:48 PDT A few months ago I was in the mood (a frequent mood for me) to buy a piece of fun, colorful jewelry. I started surfing the eBay Jewelry category and found myself bidding on a beautiful vintage turquoise and coral beaded Native American cuff. I’ve always been aware of turquoise, always liked, but I never loved it. I thought hmmm…has turquoise been hiding from my radar? Turquoise is always present, sometimes trendier than others, but I think I’m in love here! I did some research on the artist and started emailing questions back and forth with the eBay seller. Suddenly I HAD to have this bracelet! I started to question myself, “WHY do you HAVE to have this? Didn’t you have some fun colorful Lucite bangles or another pair of vintage earrings? Does this cuff, which happens to be an investment piece, work with enough things in your wardrobe?” I ended up ignoring my inner monologue and just went for it! I am happy to say I now own this magnificent turquoise cuff and wear it with jeans and a white cuffed shirt, a pale gray dress, a multi color long print caftan and many, many other things. It’s not even about matching. I wear it because I love and appreciate the beauty of it and, I must admit, the thrill of the hunt!! ![]() Image from eBay seller: howlingdogtrader Not long ago turquoise came up again. This time I was being asked to predict jewelry trends for the upcoming fall season. I gave my predictions (which I will write about soon) and was about to include turquoise, then I thought, “No scratch that Sandy. Turquoise is associated more with resort and summer season. It makes people think of sun, desert, etc, etc.” The next morning I called the editor back and told her that I knew it sounded off but I was feeling turquoise for fall. Whew! Am I glad I did! After picking up some of the advance copies of the fall fashion magazines, it is everywhere! Sometimes the actual turquoise stone is set in gold, copper or silver, other times found in deep turquoise shades of crystal cocktail rings. I love cuffs, so the unusual enamel cuffs and brooches that incorporate turquoise with other rich colors are special to me. If you must think about it, wouldn’t a wonderful turquoise starburst on a brown wool jacket or coat be the perfect touch for fall??? Turquoise Brooch
