Nahid Orphanage Party

ok so this is the plan!

I'm making special plans to throw a big party for the three sisters in the Nahid Orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan. Nahid orphanage believes in not wasting money - since money is tight- so when they have birthday parties they have multiples at once.

It's extremely rare that parties are even celebrated. If an international sponsor sends in the extra $300 for a party they make a whole outing out of it. All the kids celebrate at this party with cake, decorations, candy, and food. All three of the separate orphanages come together for this special event.

It's a sad fact that most of the children in the orphanage haven't ever had anyone celebrate their birthday, much less even know what a birthday party is or when their birthday even is. Yes, the living standards are that horrible in Kabul!

actually RAWA/CharityHelpInternational can actually explain it better than I:

"Birthday Parties: All of the children have very painful and bleak stories; they were orphans, victims of child labor, and street children forced to beg. Birthday is a new and strange term for them because they don't remember if some one ever celebrated their birthdays. Indeed, most of the children don't even know their birth date and RAWA has contacted their families and relatives to find out their date of birth. Imagine how exciting it must be to see others celebrate a special day just for him or her!

It is not financially feasible to have relatively big parties for every child but we have tried to celebrate birthdays for all the children by organizing a fun party, where the children sing and dance. A few of our international sponsors have funded big outdoor parties in honor of the birthday of their sponsored child."

anyhow... this was the response that i received about the idea for a birthday party for all three sisters. the response was sent to Stephanie to send to me. Stephanie is my go between person that then contacts a person at RAWA in Afghanistan.

"I just heard back from RAWA about the party…this is what they are thinking…

Hi Stephanie,

Great!!! This is a wonderful idea. I think the children of Nahid, particularly Helai, Marghalai and Shazia will be too much happy to have that party. The best idea I think would be an 'outdoor family birthday party', where children and their families are taken to a park or a little far from Kabul city. I will discuss this with the administrator of Nahid and we will see what is the best program.

How cool is that? It sounds like it could be a wonderful party!

Thanks so much for making this happen! I can’t wait to see the pictures-maybe even a short video-I will check with them about the video clip…

Peace,

Stephanie"
