About the Artist Sandra Y. Street has been a doll designer since childhood. She was taught to sew by her mother and made dolls and their outfits for many of her neighborhood friends. Sandra collects/ saves everything! She adorns her dolls with beads, trims, unusual fabrics and other interesting trinkets from her many bags, boxes and baskets of found treasures that she has acquired over the years. Most of Sandra’s dolls are tall and slim with long necks and slender waists. “I think of them as fashion models minus egos and attitudes. I enjoy dressing my dolls up in lavishly detailed costumes, no two dolls are ever alike.” says Sandra. “I describe my faceless dolls as “three dimensional silhouettes.“ The personalities of the dolls shine through without traditional facial features“. Sandra’s doll creations have been available in the gift shops of the Washington DC's Smithsonian Museum, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Kennedy Center and upscale boutiques across the country. Her dolls also reside in the homes of several celebrity doll collectors. Sandra has recently become a grandmother and looks forward to passing her doll-making skills on to her beloved granddaughter.
