One of the hot topics for this election, are we having another Bradley affect? Is there hidden bigotry among our fellow voters? And how does this really affect the true spirituality of the individual, and the group as a whole?

THE ULTIMATE FLIP FLOP - Sarah Palin Praises Obama's Energy Plan (It Dissapears from Website).

Until August 28th (just the day before the VP announcement)  Sarah Palin had a Press Release listed on her webiste.  It has since disappeard.  It is cached - but will be gone.

So I am here to MEMORIALIZE IT in its proper stature:

Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Includes Alaska's Natural Gas Reserves

August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama’s proposed rebate — a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state’s resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.

“Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue,” Governor Palin said.

As an ADDED point of Interest:  the Debate of troop withdrawal re the Iraq War will undoubtedly come up this fall.  Palin has some serious eduction to catch up on (no doubt she did, but it will all be recent CATCH UP.

Alaska Business Monthly: We've lost a lot of Alaska's military members to the war in Iraq. How do you feel about sending more troops into battle, as President Bush is suggesting?

Palin: I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place; I want assurances that we are doing all we can to keep our troops safe. Every life lost is such a tragedy.

This was shortly after becoming governor.  Surge? What Surge? We don't Need no Stinkin Surge?

What's wrong with Sarah Palin?

Worst VP choice since Quayle.  She's brighter, and was obviously picked to try and gear up the republican side.  Note - Quayle was degraded for being picked by George W Bush as a Gimmick.  So do recognize the similarities in this VP selection.

She'll appeal to a few women, Nascar folks will love her husband.  Her overly conservative side, coupled with the ties to Ted Stevens - will prevent her from snagging the overwhelming womens' vote the Reps are looking for.

But only partial term as Governor, already embroiled in some nastiness up in Alaska - this could possibly be NOT what the republicans are looking for. (I.E. - this may be THEIR Bradley effect).

And unfortunately, the corruption from the Republicans rubbs off on her, she is no exception to the crowd.

McCain preferred Leiberman (though rumor had Mitt Romney on the ticket).  But the Conservative Machinery (aka Karl Rove) insisted on someone more in line with the far right base.  Choosing Palin pushes Poor McCain to flip flop on Anwr, once again placing drilling and oil centric (can you say lobbyists) back into his campaign.

And speaking of McCain's claim of Obama's lack of experience - despite the propaganda led by the party - our young Palin (trying to get those disgruntled Clinton women) - only has 1.5 years into her term as governor.  While watching CNN, it is interesting to note the Republcian spoespeople trying to extoll all the EXPERIENCE virtues of her tenure (not).

Besides lack of experience (short tenure in off8ce) - we have here a possible lead into the White House (note McCain's battle with cancer, and 72 years of age) - that has NO foreign policy experience, and really no average American State experience (no agriculture to speak of, and Anchorage represents about the only Area Code for Alaska, its major city).  Romney was a FAR better choice.

So look for the debates to really bring out the true differences in the VP choices, and Biden leads the way.

Mars Pet Care is recalling bags of Pedigree Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites dog food.

A salmonella scare has forced Mars Petcare US to recall 100 of its 20-pound bags of PEDIGREE Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites sold at some Albertsons in Southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The company also makes Nutro pet food, which scores of consumers nationwide blame for the recent illnesses - and even deaths - of their dog and cats.

Nutro products, however, are not included in this recall.

Mars said a "component" that tested positive for salmonella was inadvertently shipped to its Tracy, California, plant and used in the production of 100 bags of PEDIGREE pet food.

The affected bags have the "best by" dates of July 7, 2009.

"Our primary concern is the safety and welfare of our pet owners and their pets," the company said in a statement. "Although the finished product tested negative and we have received no reports of illness of pets or their owners, out of an abundance of caution we are issuing a voluntary recall of the limited number of bags of Pedigree Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites containing the component in question."

Consumer Affairs has more.

I don't see anything on the Mars website yet, and since the Pedigree website isn't coming up at all for me right now, I don't know if they've issued a press release about this or not.

Menu Foods Refines Recall List

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(April 17, 2007) - Menu Foods

Menu Foods has previously recalled wet cat and dog food produced with adulterated wheat gluten supplied by ChemNutra Inc. Over the past several days, Menu Foods continued a detailed analysis of production records at its Emporia, Kansas, plant as part of the US Food and Drug Administration’s ongoing investigation of this adulterated wheat gluten. As a result of this work, Menu Foods advises the public:

- One additional item has been added to the recall list and is shown below

- Two additional production dates of eight varieties of pet food have been added to the recall list. These eight varieties of pet food had previously been withdrawn from the market and should already be off the retailer shelves.

An updated list of the recalled products, including this addition, is available at the Menu Foods website at http://www.menufoods.com.

Natural Balance Contaminated Rice Protein Concentrate Imported From China?

Natural Balance pet food recalled

By Julie Schmit and Elizabeth Weise, USA TODAY
The industrial chemical melamine has been found in more pet food, and suspicion is falling on a second pet-food ingredient imported from China as the source of the contamination.
Natural Balance Pet Foods said Tuesday it found melamine in samples of some of its food, which led to a recall. The company suspects melamine was in a rice protein concentrate used as an ingredient, said President Joey Herrick in an interview.

Melamine is the chief suspect related to the Menu Foods recall, first announced four weeks ago for more than 60 million cans and pouches of wet dog and cat food. The melamine in Menu's products was in wheat gluten imported from China and sold to Menu and several other pet-food makers, which also did recalls.

The rice protein concentrate was imported from China by San Francisco-based Wilbur-Ellis. Herrick says the concentrate, which is being tested, is suspected to have melamine, as it was the only new ingredient. Recalled Natural Balance products include Venison and Brown Rice canned and dry dog foods, dog treats and Venison and Green Pea dry cat food.

Wilbur-Ellis CEO John Thacher said his company sold the concentrate to five pet-food makers, but that most of it went to two firms. One of the primary companies was Diamond Pet Foods, which packs some of the Natural Balance product but doesn't use the concentrate in any Diamond-made foods, says Diamond spokesman Jim Fallon. The other major customer, which Thacher would not name, tested the rice protein and found no melamine, Thacher says. Natural Balance's rice protein concentrate is mixed with venison meal, Thacher says.
