Archive - April 2008 For many years...Posted Apr-30-08 21:06:33 PDT Updated Apr-30-08 21:08:24 PDT I owned an antique shop...and my word was pretty much a thing of honor with me. If I told you it was old it was old. If I thought something did not need to be refinished I told you the truth, but if I had restored something I told you that too. My word was something that was important to me... The included my word to people that had no idea I had made a promise to them, other shop keepers were part of my honor, if I did not have a product or something that my customer wanted, I could tell them where to find what they wanted. To do this I spent some time every month visiting other shops, and I often wondered if they knew why I was there, but that was ok, sooner or later they would get a phone call, and I would happily send a customer their way. One of the other things I did was antique shop hunting trips. I would hire a bus and take ladies shopping, before the trip I would go around to the selected shops and scout out things that would be part of learning experience and it would be a seek and find adventure for something unique. Again this was shocking to the shop keepers, because it was unheard of to share experiences. It was about honor with me, honor to my customers and acknowledgement that I could benefit the community with this concept. Part of this was because I was President of the antique association and it was my job to promote the antique business in my town. Another part was my word...my word that I was doing business with intergrity and honesty and if that was not going to be the case, I would have closed my shop and moved on. I feel pretty much the same way about what I do on eBay, in signing my contract there were things that I agreed to do and it is still a matter of intergity that I represent my self and my business with honesty. Occassionaly I find that I have broken a rule or did something without realizing it.... on occassion something has been removed, because I made a mistake.......if anyone finds that I have made a mistake or represented something that was not exactly right, I would expect to be reported or asked to remove or correct the item. And that is just the way it is with me.... I have been commanded...Posted Apr-29-08 20:48:00 PDT NAIL IN THE FENCE Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence. (Most importantly the last sentence) There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't los e his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there. ' A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.' It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. Send t his to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means sending it back to the person who sent it to you. If it comes back to you, then you'll know you have a circle of friends. YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONORED! Now send this to every friend you have!! And to your family. Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole. I did not write this...found it without an author... Just stopping for a few minutes,Posted Apr-29-08 16:53:26 PDT Updated Apr-29-08 16:54:04 PDT been an interesting day, the media is almost as interesting as the blogs. I have watched all day. Somewhere, somehow the country has to get a grip on things....there has to be a turn around somewhere in all of this, and I am not sure we can wait until the next president takes office, in my life have seen the house market go bust previously, shopping centers close and have seen gas problems, but somehow this is different. In the 80ties I saw my house drop from $107,000 to $52,000 (appraised value) and it turned out that a mortgage company had bought my mortage from our lender (our lender went bankrupt) for 25 Cents on the dollar, meaning they had a $27,000 investment, we were able to find a buyer for the $52,000 and got out from under that house...but what I see now is folks walking away. Not sure what is entirely going on , but there is going to be a lot of changes, I saw it happen before, malls shut down in the 80ties, the city of Dallas was in big time trouble, with malls shut down everywhere. It will take a big plan by most cities to keep it going. So far we are not seeing it be a crises in North West Arkansas, some drop in the market, but not much and the economy is still solid. For the life of me, I cannot understand a mortgage company pushing for a higher mortgage when they know the people are going to walk, where is the logic in there, except for one thing...MORTGAGE INSURANCE that protects the lender. They don't lose. This will pass, I know it will, have seen it several times in my life, but more people than ever have been hurt this time....We are a strong country, we will regroup and pull through this, remember there are pockets that are not affected and there are areas that are being destroyed....some of it is a natural adjustment, houses were being sold for too much to begin with and areas being overbuilt...so there will be a swing... Just some passing thoughts... MINKIPosted Apr-29-08 11:15:31 PDT Updated Apr-29-08 12:26:07 PDT If you jump up and down and howl...

Saw my first snake of the season today..Posted Apr-28-08 22:47:08 PDT Updated Apr-28-08 22:47:39 PDT
This is a worm snake, they live off of earth worms, get to be about 11 inches, but I think the one I saw was bigger. I am raking down the mountain side in the back of our property to get all of the leaves and winter trees trash down, so we can burn it...still have a lot to do...think I will wear my hiking boots tomorrow...lol These are harmless and will not hurt you, this one laid perfectly still after I raked it up.....made me jump, since I was not sure what kind it was, but chilled out after I recognized it. When I realized I was going to live here, and that the place would have snakes, I started studying them, so I would not panic.......and guess what, I am doing pretty good. ... I have funny snake stories from years past when I was so terriorized... I have seen more snakes here in 2 1/2 years than I have seen in my entire life. We do have some that are poison, so you have to be careful. *************************************************** |
