Art on eBay

First off I want to thank everyone who has been reading this blog these past few months.  I’ve received some great feedback and I wanted to take this opportunity to respond to a comment one reader recently posted regarding buying art on eBay. The comment couldn’t have come at a better time because I am about to leave for Art Basel, which is an international art show in Miami Beach featuring leading art galleries from around the globe.  Needless to say, art is on my mind and I am looking forward to being able to report back on exciting new trends I discover at Art Basel :)

Back to the comment…this particular eBay user wanted to know if I was aware of self-representing artists who sell their own art on eBay, and the answer is yes, I am.  I don’t know these artists personally, but I do know they’re on eBay because they have emailed me to let me know their art is on the site.  Personally, I love Asian inspired watercolors, oil landscapes, and most of all, modern photography – it works great with my design sensibility for a monochromatic color palette.  I’m always looking to expand my art collection, and I actually have my eye on a beautiful nature-inspired photograph that I’m watching on my eBay page.  But, if you know of any great artists selling their original work on eBay, be sure to let me know so I can check them out, and can also help spread the word.

Dear Shawn,
I would love to bring to your attention an alternative art form available from self-representing artists, as it is a somewhat different medium, but one that works really well in design, especially if someone is looking for something a bit 'softer'. I am a self-representing artist selling on ebay, and what I am selling are my originally designed quilts. Although I am not the only one trying to sell quilts as art for decorative and collection purposes, I am definitely in a minority. I plan on writing some guides to help educate the community on this artistic medium, but wonder if you have any other suggestions?

My work can be found at http://stores.ebay.com/Diane-Weber-Quilt-Art, and in particular, listed under Wall Quilts:

I have many more to list, but have been somewhat disappointed with the response. Yesterday I was offered $100 for a quilt that is probably worth at least $400-$500. I have been fairly successful selling my work off eBay, but thought sure the huge numbers of members available on eBay would enable further selling. Again, I would love any suggestions you might have.
