Happy Halloween

Wow! Where has the year went?  It seems I was just packing away the Christmas Tree and now it is time to get it out again. Halloween is my favorite time of the fall season.  It always brings excitement to our house.  The neighborhood is bustling with children from every Nationality and Country.   I already know who will be "ringing" the bell first tonight; our special guests Abby, Ali, and A.J. from next door.  They will be expecting their Box Teddy Grahams each and of course candy.  I am excited to see their costumes ( I think they are going to be Hamburgers & French Fries).  I remember my first Trick or Treat Venture.  Mom always told me stay in the block. Well of course I stayed on the same side of the street but found myself over 10 blocks from home, crying and ringing the doorbell of my last house.  I told them I was lost and to my surprise they knew my parents (oldtime friends) and called them to come and get me.

My all time best Halloween Memories was always putting on one of the biggest Family Halloween Parties in our small town of 110 in South Daktoa.  It was a grand event and drew more people each year.  One of the craziest dishes brought to our house was a bed pan filled with chocolate pudding and gummy worms.  Adult humor at its finest.

It is difficult to be here in Washington DC away from our 6 grandchildren.  I have just returned from a home visit and took their Trick Or Treat bags to them this year.  I look forward to the time when we can move closer home and be apart of our grandchildren's growing years.  Happy Halloween to Gracelyn, Kerstyn, Jeralyn, Caleb, Camden, and Dylan. We love and miss you.

Share with me some of your fondest Halloween memories. Have a safe and Happy Halloween.

When my kids were little, I used to fix a meal that always included orange tinted mashed potatoes. After the trick or treating was over, we'd put a fire in the fireplace, sort candy and play games. The boys would get a little leeway on bedtime on that night. Fond memories........now at least one of them is creating Halloween memories of his own with his daughter.

It was a busy night as I expected with the warm weather. The princess was the most popular and the cutest went to our tiny little police officer who was probably just 2. We had over 175 little guests at our home. I love seeing all the little ones with their anticipation on their faces.

Hi Judy,

Halloween has come and gone and now Christmas is only a week away. My birthday is December 18th yes tomorrow and I wanted to share with you some of my fondest memories. Every Christmas eve we would all pile into my Dad's old Biskane car all 8 of us it was pretty crammed to go the midnight mass, and every year just as we were all ready to go my Dad would have to go to the bathroom, we were all pretty upset because we felt like sardines in there but off he went and when he got back he was always out of breath. What we didn't know at the time was that he was running around putting all the gifts under the tree. As we got older we would sit around and laugh about it just picturing my Dad who was larger than life to me running around like a chicken with it's head cut off making sure that he hadn't missed a gift. My Dad has since passed (he was 58) and I still think of those Christmas eve's and how special he made them for us. I miss him terribly but am thankful that I can look back and smile at the thought of seeing the utter delight in his eyes when we got home to see the mountain of presents under our Christmas tree. When it came to Christmas my Dad was like a kid himself, we didn't have much money and he was so proud to be able to give us the best Christmas he could on the small wages he was making and with him being sick so much there were times when all we had for Christmas were homemade things but I can honestly say those were the best. I still have the little doll crib he made for me out of hockey sticks. It is my pride and joy and later on I will be able to pass it down to my daugther or granddaughter. So for everyone that thinks that Christmas is about giving huge presents to your kids, remember this story, it doesn't matter how much money you have in your bank account or what kind of car you drive, but if you made a difference in a child's life, your life is complete. Well, from one that lost her Dad at 23, my most precious gift was his lo
