Most Recent Posts Doom & Gloom?Posted Aug-03-08 14:24:15 PDT Hello So,all the news is bad these days it seems. The awful incident in Antigua taking up much of it,and now I see the husband has died.A small community will be effected for many years, like Soham after the Huntley murders.I myself come from a similarly effected community,so I feel something for the families and friends concerned. More doom and gloom on the money side of things, with the threat of fuel and energy rises and house prices dropping. The time of so called Summer Madness will arrive shortly with barmy tales to make us laugh or start calling for a change in society. After that we will be swamped with special offers for Xmas and Winter breaks etc. Enough of that for now.I spent some of my leisure time over the last fortnight making a large wooden planter from scrap decking. Now it is finished I look on it with both pride and foreboding. It will take 3/4 people to lift it into place.Once full of earth only a fork lift will be able to move it.I need to choose the location carefully! Last week we had a family outing to an open air disco.Blessed with warm weather we had a great time,a few drinks and laughs and the sorrows melted away. And I did not even get tipsy. You can't beat the company of good friends and family even if the youngsters do roll their eyes and pretend to look embarrassed. So,back to reality, making a living of sorts on ebay. Here's a tip for postcard sellers. If you have anything with the name Renouf,as sender, recipient,or subject, there is a buyer out there looking, especially for those with a Jersey connection. Bye Mike Banning A BidderPosted Jul-13-08 12:14:57 PDT Well this last week has been eventful.I have not stopped.Well I have but I have done a lot of this and that.Laid a patio, amongst other things.Spent yesterday at Cotswold Wildlife Park with my 2 grandchildren, which was my birthday treat not theirs.Thoroughly enjoyed the day,as did the little ones. The only bad thing to happen this week was that for the first time I have banned an ebayer from bidding on my items. The person won an item, and constantly told me he had problems with his 'new'paypal account, getting registered etc.So he asked for bank details as a means of paying.I told him he could wait till his problem with pp was sorted,or send a cheque, whatever. No,it would have to be direct payment and would I give him the necessary details. All this was weeks ago,and still no response, till he emails me and says still having a problem setting up pp,bank details or no deal!So I decided no deal and will not accept a bid from him again. If he had high feedback I would have considered, but his was very, very low,and he does live abroad. As far as I am concerned it's his loss.Anyone agree or disagree with my decision? Till next time then, bye. Avoiding Williams GirlsPosted Jul-05-08 06:15:25 PDT Updated Jul-05-08 06:15:50 PDT Just don't feel like watching Venus and Serena so I will add a post.Very disappointed at an auction I went to earlier.Couple of postcard lots I fancied went for quite high prices.Despite the so called credit crunch it seems collectors are not holding back on new aquisitions. Are cards and stamps better than pensions and shares? My own share portfolio is down by nearly 80% despite the fact the companies concerned are doing well, and are paying out dividends. That reminds me--the other day I was reading a global doom and gloom article and a name mentioned triggered a synapse or two(or is it neurons?)The article was about a man who is on the board of 15 companies worldwide.I looked him up on google, then on friends reunited. Many years ago when newly married we had a flat in Whalley Range,Manchester. The man in the article lived in the flat below, and was always borrowing a loaf or some coffee, and now and again a bottle of wine for when he entertained a lady.Forever pleading poverty as students do.Now he has pots of money.I thought about writing to him and asking for a loan,to see what response I got. Spent part of the morning looking for a birthday present for my grand-daughter,who will be 1 yr old on the 14th July.Absolute rubbish in the shops.Any suggestions? Bye. Friday night InPosted Jun-27-08 13:56:21 PDT So,here I am,at home when the rest of you are out spending your ill gotten gains,or your wages.Brilliant football from Spain last night.I have a little tale for you,yes I am going to bore you again. A week or so ago I listed a postcard, using the publishers name in the description. The buyer turned out to be a descendant of that publisher, and was quite pleased with his purchase.Little things like that make collecting and selling a bit more enjoyable. You know, perhaps I should get out more! Till next time, stay lucky. Kept away by the footiePosted Jun-23-08 13:19:22 PDT Hello After spending most evenings watching the Euro games,I am back to writing nonsense.Actually I have enjoyed the football especially as I did'nt have to cringe watching England screw it up.So if Capello does'nt get England there in two yrs,no problem at all. Is there anyone out there with a vintage postcard, not post war,of St Mary Priory Church,Canons Ashby,N.Hants? If so I may be inclined to buy if not too pricey. Also I would be interested in any vintage cards of St James Church,Gorton,Gtr Manchester. A couple of blogs back I mentioned getting hold of an accumalation of cards in a chest of drawers.Having had a look at some I was surprised to find some quality stuff, and a load of common stuff too, in surprisingly good condition.Unfortunately for me much is not of interest, but others will benefit eventually. Bye till next time Mike |
