It's a No-Go on my new Payment OptionPosted Sep-05-07 13:10:29 PDT Well, As I tried to list my first couple of items yesterday I got error messages saying my contents are in violation of eBay's policy. After further research, I find out that eBay does not allow Google Checkout as a payment option. Now I understand why eBay would put certain payment options as violations (Western Union transfers, these new and small payment solutions), but this is Google, Traded on the Stock Exchange, Billions in business every year and you can't allow this as a Payment method. I have contacted ebay, and no good reason could be given to me. They did give a reason, but I think it is rubbish and this borderlines on possible monopoly tendencies (PayPal is owned by eBay). So, Until I can use Google Checkout, I guess I will play by their rules and take PayPal. BUT, I am not letting it rest, this is not fair. The "Secure" way to Pay?Posted Aug-23-07 23:34:57 PDT What someone or some company can say is secure, in most cases is just verbage. All Talk, Terminalogy if you will. I got an email of the most recent "Privacy Policy" or User Agreement update from PayPal. It was real funny that I got that email at the same time that I was having iissues with them. Now sometimes I do try and read all or some of the "User Agreements" that these Web Sites put us through. Several years ago, I was younger and not taken advantage of yet... .would just hit the :"Agree" on the bottom of what seemed to be a 10+ page of babble from a company disclaiming their responsibility if anything happens to you or me. Well, as pieces of my Identity got stolen or used, or mixed around. I started to read these User Agreements or try to at least get the first couple and the last couple of paragraphs a quick look see. Well, I got the Update of Privacy Policy and it says in the email, and this isn't word for word but, PayPal will use IP address as ways to identity your log in and registering patterns and keep some data for security purposes. Now, I don't know about you, but this seems to be for their purpose. In a situation where I had nothing to do with what is going on and an account was opened and trashed by someone else, how does this help my Security. I can tell you how it helps, it helps them to leverage anything and everything to get what they want from their users. I can't accept PayPal payments because it is locked. Locked because my son-in-law created an account years ago and went bad on it. They told me that the IP address were the same when both accounts were opened. I told them, yeah, he lived with me and my wife for about a year with my daughter. I have thought, Let's say you have your mother over to visit. Completely harmless, you let her pay with an account that she set up with PayPal. Does that mean, you would have to interrogate her to make sure she goes good on the purchase. Where is the "Secure" portion in that? SO, that got me to thinking. I have gotten very little positive feedback from just about any Online payment accounting system. Everything from Netteller, PayPal ... and ones that I can't even think of their names. No matter what they all advertise, they still all require you to put all your information and then at the drop, use it to HELP themselves. I have gone to Google Checkout. Sure, it takes a little more time, but it is like having a swipe machine for you (customer) at your house.. You get an email or follow a Buy Now button, put in your Information (Credit Card, Address, Phone Number) and click submit. That is it, no storing information, nothing further to do. No verifying an address, Credit Card verification. These days, Credit Card companies have so many security options in place (Customer Satisfaction, If it is stolen, ID thief) and will help to get your money back (These are rare circumstances, but Credit Card companies work with you). I guess what I am saying, I like knowing my Info is left up to me. Now, I am in no way saying PayPal is not safe or saying they don't have a good operation for what alot of customers like. I just think when they can use the information given, and still not logically be there for the customer, then who are you being "Secure" too.......Yourself (Customers I guess are optional). Google Checkout is used just like you going to a store to purchase something, it is done without you having to give all your information. Just making a purchase. My frustrations with PayPal.Posted Aug-23-07 18:46:47 PDT Updated Aug-23-07 18:47:40 PDT After a fight with PayPal about my account, I have given up on trying to get PayPal to see my point. SO, I will just let out my frustrations and also inform my customers (and potential customers, window shoppers, and just general Internet surfers) as to why I can't take PayPal payments. About 2 months ago, my account was flagged for security reasons and PayPal required me to provide more information about me and my just started business. I gave all information with 24 hours of their emails. The wait was on, nothing was told to me (either by phone or electronic notification). I called, and they had no reason a reply wasn't give. I was told, resubmit your information and that person I was talking to would personally make sure it was reviewed. On this same conversation, the Customer Service Agent told me there was a problem with me being linked to another account and that that account was flagged too. I told this person how is that possible, and what are the specifics. This Customer Service Agent could not elaborate, so he told me to resubmit the information and then contact back when an email was sent to me. SO, I submitted my information AGAIN, in hopes of a quick resolution. Well, after more time, I finally heard from PayPal. They were not going to release the account for use, and they apologized for the inconvenience and thanked me for being with PayPal. YEAH RIGHT. Well, I called, and here is the problem at hand. They told me there was an account that was opened for my Son-in-law from the same IP address as what my account was opened on. I told them, well, my daughter and son-in-law lived with me for a good portion of 2 years and that I can't control what he did. My son-in-law hasn't lived with me since late 2005 and because his account is not in good standing.... mine gets flagged. I talked to the Customer Service Agent at PayPal again, and went back and forth, offering to get my son-in-law's lease agreement from him, a utility bill... something to show he isn't in my house... still NOTHING. I went on to discuss with the Customer Service Agent, that this was crazy. I offered a suggestion, why don't you allow payments and hold the funds, just to keep business flowing. Under this type of situation, I felt that completely holding the account, was very unjust. I have different family members in and outside of my household that use my computer, so what this is telling me is, It is dangerous to let someone use your computer. You will be tagged with them. They had no solutions for me other that to have my son-in-law take care of his problem ed account. I will have another Blog that is partially connected to this story and to my new payment option now that PayPal is out of the question (for now). |
