The Journey and the DestinationPosted Sep-21-07 21:49:14 PDT A lot of people will tell you that life is all about the journey and not so much about the destination. It's a whole idea that you should enjoy the walk and smell the flowers... but life IS sometimes about the destination. As my pop once told me... Buy a map! You'll know where you are and how to get where you are going. Looking through this collection of records, I've had one interesting journey. Records or Vinyl are such epic reminders for me of times and places in my life. In a macro sense, I recall going from shop to shop in the City of Chicago... visiting Wax Trax!, 2nd Hand Tunes, Gramophone, Dr. Wax, and so many more. The hunt was on, and I'd start at one end of the stacks and go through essentially the entire store looking for anything I could possibly have missed or want. It was sheer joy to find a record that I "needed" and with carrier bag under arm, I would hoof it or bike it back to the apartment and depending upon the purchase it would either go right into the collection or right on the turntable... What I have here on Staplerguy999 is a slice of my life from 1977-1993 or my prime record buying years. Cds changed something for me. I bought a lot of them, but they were so sterile, and held such less magic for me that within years I was nearly out of collecting music, and my records just sat on the shelf. Now with a handful of kids and moving to a smaller place, and of the realization that I haven't even looked at many of these records (and they are RECORDS in every sense of the word) I just have to move them along to new owners who will appreciate them as much as I once did. Ebay is different than roaming the stacks, but it's better in a lot of ways too... lots more choice. In the end I hope you enjoy the journey you are on to find your ultimate records as I once was... but then again... aren't they all just different destinations. I hope at least now I know where I am going. Staplerguy999 |
