If you don't know who Jason Lee is... you're missing out. He's one of my mentors and is one of THE top people in the pipe industry, his work is insane. He was in town last week so we busted out some marbles- they're up on the bay starting at $.99!! Also- I JUST figured out what I needed to for detailed sandblasting and these have the first super tight images on them....
After a bit of a rough start we decided what we were doing and got some momentum. We handed the pieces off to one another as much as possible to split the work and utilize each other's refined skills. He made and then snipped up little pieces of the bubble matrix and put them in the kiln. I then added a gather of clear to one, backed it with black and finished. I added a gather to another one then he backed that one with black then blue moon (the next day when they were cold, I then created the designs that are on the backs in Photoshop and then sandblasted both). Then Jason made the brain, and I made the box around it... And on the last one Jason added the gather to the bubbles, he fumed it which he hasn't fumed anything in years so that green is... well that's why he's Jason Lee, he's just good at everything and REALLY good. I strive for that green on every piece and get it 1/ 10 he nails it first time after 5 years of not even fuming LOL!! Anyways he then added the other gather rounded it off a bit and I did the final twist and rounding.
It was a great time- I really hope we do it again in the near future. It was cool for both of us because we worked together for a lot of years in the past- a few different shops... but then he moved out east right before we started doing collabs at Glass Works Park- before that, for us, we had never done that or thought of doing it.... he's not too far away either so we were talking about doing more.
