Reefer Madness at Studio ZusePosted Sep-26-08 16:03:00 PDT The cult hit Reefer Madness is coming soon to our eBay store. The morality tale turned cult hit with the college kids has outlasted most cults hits - making it to Broadway and Showtime - since its beginning in 1936! The history of how it came to be on college campuses is stuff of legend. Really important to this film is its initial history. It came to be, as many exploitation/morality tales of the 30s, as a direct result of the Hollywood Production Code of 1934. The Production Code transformed the purpose and content of movies for generations (well into the late 60s - eventually destroyed by movies from the late 60s, The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, etc). Haven't seen the colorized version. Thoughts?
ZOMBIE! - Fulci Class NotesPosted Aug-28-08 14:39:20 PDT Cult Classic Class Notes Presents: Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE A.K.A "ZOMBI 2" When the earth spits out the dead, they will rise to suck the blood of the living! Try to find the first "Zombi" and you'll have a hard time - The creators were pretty sure that another film of the time called Zombie (Not just any film - it was the European release of Romero's Dawn of the Dead) would cause a problem. In order to prevent confusion, ZOMBI was given a "2" and thus a sequel was born to - well - nothing. The creation of ZOMBI 2, like most cult classics, is filled with lore and myths surrounding the production of the film. One of the biggest myths is that somehow one guy played all the zombies in the movie. In fact, the look-a-like zombies are the result of cast members, particularly brothers, resembling each other. But most importantly, ZOMBI 2 has often been called a "banned" horror movie due to considerable buzz around the initial rating of the movie and the incredible amount of gore. It was X -rated in 1980, and that was including cuts. It was banned in 1984 - more cuts. In both 1992 and 1999, it was re-rated, with cuts. This is the short version of the story. It wasn't until 2005 that is was passed - without being cut. Between '79 and '05 is was cut, re-cut, and re-rated ... ensuring its place in banned movie lore. So when picking up your copy of ZOMBIE, be sure to pick up the 2005 re-release for the entire film.
