Since I recently listed some fabulous cashmere for sale at StyleTherapyTX, I thought I might post a few tips about caring for these delicate little items!

Although most labels will advise you to dry clean cashmere knits, hand washing is a great option (not to mention less expensive)!

A few rules to follow:
1)  Hand wash in sink or basin (many machines now offer a "hand wash" option, but may still be a little too harsh for such items.)
- Scrub sink before washing to ensure any buildup of harsh cleaners has been removed.
- Use an appropriate detergent for delicate items such as Woolite or a gentle baby shampoo. (1 tsp per gallon water)
- Twirl item in soapy water for about 2-5 minutes.  Do not pull, stretch or rub cashmere.
- Empty sink or basin and press item against side to remove excess water.  Refill basin with clean water and twirl to rinse.  Repeat this process until any suds are gone.

2)  Lay flat between 2 towels and press out excess water/moisture.

3)  Block/reshape as necessary.  (Bonus tip: Before washing, trace the outline of the garment.  To reshape, simply lay clean sweater on outline and fit to the original silhouette.)

4)  Allow to dry flat on a mesh drying rack.  Do not hang, as this could cause stretching or dimpling at shoulders.
