What To Look For When Purchasing Templates -

In these times on Ebay you see so many Auction Listing Templates. All templates are not the same. To avoid wasting your own hard earned money and getting "gotten" by these Cookie Cutter template makers be sure to know....

When purchasing an auction template there are several things to consider before clicking on that "buy it now".

  • Is The Template Well Organized? You do not want something that will take away from the actual item that you are trying to sell. It should be well organized and not "too much". And you definitely do not want something that is going to be all over the place when your customer is trying to view your item. Any major distractions can be critical when trying to get your potential buyer to stay and find out more.
  • Does The Seller Provide Copyright Safe Graphics Used In The Template? ie: No Disney, Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie etc. !!!!! These use of graphics are against Ebay policy and not to mention against copyright laws. Trust me, Disney does not give out permission of use to their artwork to be resold for any kind of profit. If you see any recognizable graphics, you can rest assured that they are not legal to use. And if Ebay stumbles upon it or one of your competition reports your listing with your cute new template.. they will yank every last auction you have listed with that template and you will not be refunded your listing costs. Most reputable designers when using other graphics that they have purchased rights to or make their own, will state that in the auction. So do READ all of their terms.
  • Does The Seller Provide Unlimited Support For The Template? This is key as a lot of people are not familiar with HTML coding and it does take some, even a little knowledge to make it an easy process. Customer care is important. Not sure from what you read... ALWAYS check feedback. There you will find how their customer support is. Don't let this scare you, you can find an easy to use template out there with the right support it is a breeze!
  • Is There Hosting Provided For The Graphics That Make The Template? Some do provide the hosting for you. Some will do it for a certain period of time or will host them for as long as you need. Both of these are great and those that do not, will or should help you with setting up your template with your own hosting.. no questions asked.
  • Is The Template Ebay Policy Compliant? There are many little quirks that Ebay has about what you can and cannot have in your auction listing. The designer should be well aware of these terms. Most that do, you will not see any site interfering "bells & whistles" so to speak. If a designer is educated on the do's and don't you will most likely see that they are a Certified Ebay Store Designer. The exam they give to designers covers all the do's and don't when designing anything on Ebay.
  • Refunds? Well most if not all will not offer refunds. This is mostly due to protect the designer. It is all too easy to be ripped off when working with any digital item online. This is why it is so important to ask all these questions when reading an auction for any designer. But with that being said, all and every designer should be willing to work with you until you are satisfied. So please be sure to read the terms of the designer before purchasing and PLEASE check the feedback.
  • One Last And Very Important Thing To Check With All Listing Templates You May Want To Purchase, Are The Graphics Used Compresssed And Easy Loading On The Page? This is critical as many of the people in the world still use dial up or other not so quick speeds to access the internet. If the graphics in the template are not compressed, it can take up to 2-3 minutes for a customer to actually view your auction. And to be honest many, if not all, will not stay on that page that long just to view the item when they can see it quicker on the next listing below you. You do not want something that will bog down the page and instantly send your potential customers clicking the back button! So do check that all graphics are compressed for easy loading or you will definately see a drecrease in sales instead of the must desired increase in sales!

The basic and most important thing to do as with any auction or purchase, is to be well informed about who you are dealing with and what you are buying. Checking feedback, viewing previous items sold etc. And do read all terms! Have all your answers prior to clicking that "Buy It Now". Auction Listing Templates are fun and easy to use as long as you know what to look for.

Why Auction Listing Templates?

Why would you need an auction template for your listings?

Well auction templates have been proven to increase sales as well as give the seller a branded ~ remembered look. When one walks into a store the first thing they notice is the "look" of the store. Is it organized? Does it have a warm welcoming feel? Does the store show any professionalism to where you know you are dealing with trusted people before you spend your hard earned money? All or at least one of these things cross a customers mind when they walk into a store. And all of these things apply as well when you are shopping and selling items online. You want to convey to your customers that you care how your auctions/items are presented to them, the buyer. To them, you are more likely to go that extra mile to make sure that their experience is a pleasant one. You already took that first step in presenting your item.

First impressions mean everything when dealing with the public. Having a well organized auction listing, store, me page etc. Is key to keeping those potential customers coming back. Sure anyone can sell something and get the feedback etc. etc. But when selling items online, for most people it comes down to money... when depending on it being extra vacation money or even a dependable earning as well. And customers that have a pleasant experience shopping in one place will be more likely to return. And returning customers equals money. By adding that extra touch that your competition may not have will set you apart from the rest and give you that edge.

There are many things to look for when purchasing a new look for your listings and/or store. In future blogs we will go over some of the key things you want to look for before deciding on a designer that's right for you.

You can't just click and buy the first thing you see! Unfortunately there are a lot of self proclaimed "designers" that don't play quite by the rules. Don't let your hard earned money go to waste ....
