Appalling Service from Pipex / Tiscali

I am going to try to keep this short, I would appreciate some help if you have knowledge in this area of consumer rights.

Pipex / Tiscali recently dis-connected my Broadband service.

This sad tale of woe started when my Credit Card Expired, I tried to input the new details online, however there was no facility to do this.

Their helpline encouraged me to pay via Direct Debit by offering a £1 discount on my monthly subscription fee, therefore I gave the relevant details for setting up of the Direct Debit.

I then received a communication stating that I needed to set up a monthly payment system or my service would be 'cut'.

Again I called their helpline and restated my banking details, and again I received a warning letter stating that I would be dis-connected, if  the monthly payment system was actioned, this was repeated so many times that I got frustrated and insisted on a written confirmation via email or letter that they had my banking details.

An email confirmation was sent to me and two confirmation letters.  (I thought they went 'over the top' to make a point).

A final warning was sent to me advising that if I did not pay the amount owed that my service would be 'cut' and the amount owing would be collected by a 'third party'.

I wrote to the Customer Service Team enclosing a printout of the email confirmation and photocopies of the two confirmation letters.

No reply was received, my broadband was dis-connected and I received a 'Notice of Legal Proceedings' from I debt collection agency.

The money owed was paid via the Post Office Girobank system.

Another letter to the Pipex / Tiscali Customer

I checked with my bank to see if any attempt by Pipex / Tiscali to set up a Direct Debit had been rejected, the answer was no.

I have reported the matter to my local Trading Standards Office, who said they would write to Pipex / Tiscali  on my behalf.

My problem now is:

- I have no internet connection

- No MAC to go to another Broadband provider

- My name has been passed onto a Credit Agency, does this impact on my Credit Rating?

- I am out of pocket, in dealing with this situation, can I claim my time and expenses?

Not too sure what to do next.  Any advice would be appreciated

The Runescape Diary: Zero to Hero, the legend begins.

I suppose the first question would be:  What is a Runescape hero?

Like many questions I suspect different people will have different answers.

As in real life in order to become a hero, I think you need to excel in an activity or have an item/s which is admired by many people.  I know this is quite a simplistic statement, you may wish to expand on it.

At the moment am too new to the Runescape world, to know what to list accurately the activities or the items which attract admiration from other people.  So I will list what I think they are, am sure this list will change as I progress.

- Owning a great amount of gold  <>  what would be a heroic amount of gold? a million, a billion?

- Owning a specific item <> While at the GE, I have heard people asking for Party/Santa hats and whips

- Achieving 99 at a specific skill <> Obviously having 99 in all your skill would heroic

- Being skilled at an event <> Killing a particular monster, mini games,  player killing.

- Appearing in the top 20 of the Jagex Hiscore list <> This would take some serious commitment

- Being selected as a Jagex Player Moderator <> This would make you very visible

- Having the best dressed character <> Do Gucci and Primark have accounts?

- Your character appearing in 'Reality TV programme' <>   :-)

Ok that's it for now, next I'll set out my Runescape goals

Diablo 2 and Runescape

Been playing Diablo 2 (Classic and LOD) just over 3 years, I finally created a character that could kill the 'Uber Demons'.

I collected a few torch charms, thinking I could trade them for high runes, unfortunately for me I found them to be practically worthless.

After that, I must admit my enthusiasm for the game has waned.  But I got to admit it was a great run, a game that could hook you for three years has to be fairly good.

Now I feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up from his sleep, not got a clue on whats happening in the gaming world.   I tried to install some demo games but my PC is not powerful enough to play them.

So I have to invest in a new PC, but more of that later.

Meantime someone recommended Runescape; I tried the 'Free to Play' installation that went ok, getting into the game was easy enough, after three weeks I finally did all the 'Free to Play' quests.

I have enjoyed the game so far, the most frustrating thing is getting to different locations, reading the home page, and members get access to different mode of transportation.

Other people have tried  to persuade me to get World of Warcraft, I know it is supposed to be a great game (9 million players) but the monthly subscription is a stopping point for me, as I never know how much free time I get, I don't want it to turn into a 'Gym Membership' scenario.

Right now work commitments mean that I don't have much internet time, when I do get some 'play' time I may get the Runescape membership or have a go at the World of Warcraft trial.
