Most Recent Posts Life is always throwing up road blocks!Posted Jun-28-07 12:22:24 PDT Cindi and I have been working at the store, like diligent little bees... And things are DEAD! No phone calls, no customers.... Life here in the Ozarks is always a bit iffy. When the gas prices went up, the number of tourists dropped of. We sat at the store all weekend last week and only had 1 customer. Add to this lack of business the fact that my husband has been rather sick, and we've been running back and forth to Batesville 3 or 4 days a week... and I'm worn out. Here's the basic problem. Johnnie and I have been together for 2 years. We both have young-onset Parkinson's disease. We met and became friends in an on-line chat room. We fell in love and decided to get together. Part of the dream we wanted to build for ourselves was a home in the country in Arkansas. We were able to do that last January when we bought our house near Hardy. It's 42 acres of mostly hardwoods with a 12-sided oak log house. It was gutted inside because it had been seized in a DEA meth raid. We got the place "as is" for $58k. Which is a great deal! Alot of the things we needed to finish the inside of the house were hanging around out in the outbuilds or in milk crates out in the pasture. So, we spent a year getting the house in the kind of shape we wanted. Not bad for 2 disabled people, huh? Well, last fall my sister asked if she could purchase the other property we had (13 acres with a single-wide trailer) and we agreed. She got here last fall. Along with a new, happy marriage and a home in the country, I had always dreamed of having a small yarn shop. Origionally, I was just gonna have a little "fiber shop" in what was the back porch. We were going to finish it off and just have something happening there. Then I found out that we couldn't have a "farm store" unless we sold fiber that WE PRODUCED... Hum, that's a problem. So, we decided to try a little store. We looked for a place, got some inventory and prepared to open shop. About a week before time to open shop (it's mid-April by this point), I discovered that my sister had committed credit card fraud with my personal debit card and my credit card for the store. I filed a police report and waited for something to happen... and nothing did. I went to see a lawyer and asked what I should do. His advice was to dissolve the corporation, since my sister was an officer of the business. I did this. So, now I have this store that I can't man... and inventory just sitting there. So, my dear friend Cindi offered to work in the store for me. I love her for this and it's really been an inconvenience for her to do this to help me. But, the negative karma has continue to accumulate, the store isn't earning enough to even pay the rent... and I'm tired and shagged out after a prolonged squawk (Monty Python quote for those who don't know). So, we're going to be closing the store. Cindi and I really work well together and love dyeing together, so we're gonna keep the Ebay store open. But the brick and mortar will be no more. This really bums me out. And it really really makes me angry that my own sister would do this to me... She not only stole money from me, but she hasn't even bothered to make 1 payment on the place she "bought". Luckily we included a clause in the contract stating if she missed 4 consecutive payments she would be evicted. I'll have to go to the county to do that in 2 weeks. Then I'll have to clean up the friggin mess she'll have left. But at least I'll possession of all MY property back! And so, I guess I've learned a valuable lesson. If you leave home at 18 because you don't get along with your family.... don't allow them to come and live with you 30 years later. You may have mellowed with age, but they probably haven't changed! Homesteader's Day in Loberg Park, Hardy ARPosted Jun-19-07 11:11:58 PDT While Cindi and her family took a well deserved vacation to Branson, MO.... Husband Johnnie and I got to spend the day on June 16th at Loberg Park in Hardy participating in Homesteader's Day. Johnnie spun on his antique wheel, and I wove a stole on the store's 4-harness Harrisville loom. We had a great time, didn't get sunburnt and only suffered a few bug bites (forget to use the spray, darn it!). We had about 200 people stop and talk with us directly, and about 2000 people attended the event. It was great, we plan on making this a yearly event. Ebay store is now openPosted Jun-09-07 12:52:54 PDT Things are progressing well. Cindi's inventory is now in place in the brick & mortar store. So now we're concentrating on getting things under control in our virtual world. In keeping with that, the Ebay store is now open the_naked_sheep2 is the name of the ebay store. We're going to focus on our hand-painted sock yarns, rovings and beads. If there's some sort of special project you have in mind or you're looking for something special that you don't see in the store, drop us a line and we'll see what we can do for you. We want to be your yarn and fiber supplier. The store is open and the inventory is ready.Posted May-31-07 13:50:30 PDT Cindi got her bead inventory all set up, and she's happy with the results. We got the boards up and all the hand-dyed skeins are hanging and easy to see. The skeins and balls of yarn are in the bins, the books are on the shelves and we're ready for action! We've got 5 Louet spinning wheels, 2 antique wheels, a 4-harness 22-inch Harrisville loom, and a Kromski rigid-heddle loom. We will also be carrying the Hillcreek Fiber Studio triangular looms. |
