Cats need exercise!

Many people in America are overweight. I will spare you the startling statistics, but did you know that cats can be over weight too? To stay healthy, cats should maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet, and get regular exercise.

That's right, cats need EXERCISE!

Well, you ask, how exactly is my fat little cat supposed to get exercise?! It's not like she's going to jump on a treadmill and I can't really take her for a walk now can I?

No, they probably won't use your treadmill when given the opportunity, and they scoff at leashes. So, where does that leave us?

TOYS! Cats love to play and chase things, so use it to your advantage. String, yarn, and aluminum foil balls are all cheap and easily found in most households.

Your cat needs something new and more exciting? Check out the Original Cat Dancer or Dragonfly cat toys. Both toys will drive your cat crazy and motivate him to run around your living room. It will lead to exercise for Kitty and laughter for you. Check out my store for more information on these toys and other options to help keep your cats trim and healthy.

Pawbreakers: Treat or Toy?

Pawbreakers are a new catnip product.   They combine the fun of a cat toy with the insanity of catnip.  However, Pawbreakers are different from  most catnip toys because they do not contain any extra stuff to get in the cat's way, just catnip.  No fabric, no feathers, no string.  Just solid catnip and just enough human-grade-food filler to hold the catnip in its ball shape. In fact they are designed to be completely eaten by cats, so no parts to throw out once the cat "kills" it.  >^..^<

While there is often a lot of hype about new cat toys, Pawbreakers have exceeded the hype in our household.  Whenever a shipment arrives, I know without looking at the label on the box.  All we have to do is watch.  All three cats swarm the box, clawing and chewing on the cardboard until we open it up.  That's when things get REALLY crazy.  The minute we slice open the packing tape, Arthur is standing on top of the box trying to climb in with the Pawbreakers.  If we're not careful, he'll start chewing on the individual packages.  (He's even been known to steal one and run with it.)  We have "lost" a lot of Pawbreakers this way.  It can be a bit frustrating at times, like when we're packing up Pawbreakers for client orders.  BUT, at least we know Pawbreakers are a high quality product that cats are addicited... er attracted to. >^..^<

To keep our kitties busy, we have even come up with some unique ways to play with Pawbreakers.  Our personal favorite is to throw a Pawbreaker in an empty bath tub.  Because of the rounded corners, the Pawbreaker just goes around and around and around as the cats roll chase and bat at the Pawbreaker. Our cats go nuts for this. They were not so fond of the bathroom before this, but now they hop in the tub just hoping we will throw in a Pawbreaker.  Charlotte has even been seen throwing a Pawbreaker in for herself.  Highly entertaining for cats and their people. >^..^<

Flea treatments for cats

So, it has recently come to my attention that a lot of the flea treatments out there are really REALLY horrible for cats.  The flea collars alone can cause all kinds of disgusting problems, like hair loss and bleeding sores to name a few mild ones.

Please check out http://hartzvictims.org/ for more information and graphic photos.WARNING, PHOTO'S GRAPHIC OF WHAT HARTZ FLEA COLLAR DID TO A CAT

If your cat has fleas, I HIGHLY recommend that you contact your vet for recommended solutions.  Most vets are completely aware of the dangers of flea collars and the like.  They can steer you in a kitty-friendly direction.

The best prevention for fleas is to keep your kitty friend inside.  A lot of people let their cats go outside, and I can understand it. The cats I grew up with were indoor/outdoor cats.  BUT, keeping your cats indoors will save you tons of frustration with fleas, diseases, and tons of $$$ in vet bills.  All three of my cats are indoor cats.  We let them onto our 3 season porch in the non-winter months, but that's as close as they get.

Any questions about keeping cats indoors?  Post 'em here!
