Most Recent Posts Are all sun colored amethyst bottles fake?Posted Jan-31-08 22:00:22 PST As I was writing my last post on Dumpdiggers.blogspot I found myself wondering about how to make glass - historically. Tell me glassmaking experts, what is the dfference between flint glass and William Leighton's 1864 recipe for soda lime glass? Did both recipes call for a clarifyer like lead to be used to mitigate the green iron oxide impurities in sand? Were both processes vitrified using manganese after the price of lead rose in the 1850s? These are the questions not answered by my last Dumpdiggers post. Dumpdiggers - How to find old dumps?Posted Jan-17-08 06:15:47 PST Updated Jan-17-08 06:18:46 PST There are many ways to find old dumps, and other places to dig for valuable antique glass bottles, besides old dumps - all of this information appears on my blogspot domain entitled 'Dumpdiggers'. Recently I have been digging small town dumps all over Ontario - in most cases I can find passage back to 1880 and that's when I have great days. In November, together with the Ace of Spades, Timbits and I unearthed some salt glazed stoneware gingerbeer bottles in the historic Meaford town dump on the south shores of Lake Huron. All of this excitment awaits you at Dumpdiggers, you lucky sod, http://dumpdiggers.blogspot.com . |
