A number of paintings - watercolour on paper, and acrylic on canvas board and stretched canvas - is almost ready for listing. Throughout the winter I'll be completing a number of oil works, and these will be ready likely by December 2009 to list. (Oil paintings require 6 months to a year or more to dry before varnishing.)

Hello there. I'd like to mention as a seller that I am not Canada Post. I'm stating this as it seems to be so easy for buyers to transpose their opinion of Canada Post shipping charges onto my gold star feedback rating system. I'm a seller-buyer myself, and I'm included in the group of buyers not liking the trend for increasing postage rates domestically and internationally. Still, I don't let my feelings about Canada Post shippings rates influence me when I buy on eBay and grade another seller on their shipping charges when leaving feedback. I always leave feedback on shippings charges it in terms of how close they come to actual postal system rates.  

If a seller charges the exact price or less when shipping an auction win/purchase to a buyer, I would say that's more than reasonable. This is what I do when determining postage costs, and many times the shipping sections on my listings have an official Canada Post calculator so that costs are determined directly by Canada Post and not me. (What is unreasonable is when a seller gouges a buyer on postage, charging unreasonable fees above true postage costs.)

So, I can't help what postage rates are. I'm very reasonable on postage and make every attempt to charge exact shipping rates. And my standard policy is to refund any overcharge of $1 or more on shipping.

To use an example to clarify, if you as a parent go to the grocery store and want to buy food and come home empty-handed because the store had no food, how would you feel if your family blamed you because the store had no food? There it is in a nutshell. You are not the store, and I am not Canada Post.

So, please don't blame me for the going rates for Canada Post when you rate me on shipping & handling when leaving feedback.

As well, if you had happened to see a listing where a buyer said 'thanks for the shipping & handling' in the feedback they had left for me, that was because I made sure to charge only the local regional rate where they lived and not West Coast rates. (Their feedback comment could make other buyers to think I gave them a break on shipping, which was not the case at all. If I were to do that, I certainly couldn't make a living for very long and would have to close up shop on eBay.)

All in all, please understand that as a seller with integrity, scruples and feelings, I will do my best for you to supply you with my art and other items and deliver these items in a timely, efficient manner. The last few months I was sorting through baubles and beads, bits and pieces of broken necklaces and earrings from store remnants, and creating jewellery (primarily necklaces and bracelets) from some of it and other bead/supplies sources. Now taking a break from jewellery designing, I look forward to returning to painting this summer with renewed enthusiasm and purpose. There'll be landscapes, florals, abstracts, and perhaps fragments of dreams all true to the surreal and slightly altered perception. 

How long does it take for me to create a work of art? Anywhere from one day to many years!

Acrylic Paintings, Oil paintings, Watercolour and Drawings: The advantage artist acylic paint has over oils is that there is very little drying time between coats/layers required. You can varnish a finished acrylic painting after 30 days. With oil paintings you have to let the canvas dry for anywhere from 6 months to a year or longer. I can paint a painting in as little as 24 hours, if the inspiration is exceptional and I can work without interruptions. (Very rare!) It doesn't matter if the painting is large or small. I have finished a 16" x 20" in a day. I have taken 3 years and longer to paint a 9" x 12". It just depends. The same time frame can apply to watercolour and drawings. It can be frustrating for the longer times it takes, especially when you can picture the finished painting in your imagination. When the mood strikes to begin, continue or finish a work, and when the time is right, the art emerges and progresses with birth pangs, with changes thought-out or spontaneous or accidental. The ideas are painted with life to capture moments for eternity.

As an artist, I've always been attracted to the surreal. This means viewing people and objects from different perspectives and capturing surprising characteristics and emotions. The 'realness' of the surreal is a special magic ~ what I like to share.

Most of my surreal art is created from inner visions and inspirations that alter the way I see everyday things about me in the world. If I look at a tree, I want to know and feel it beyond its form and colour, and capture its total structure and composition in new ways.
