The year ahead was exactly what the Packers Management and their loyal legion of fans were looking for as they finished in 1st Place in the NFC Central Division, marched through the NFC Playoffs without breaking a sweat, and ended on the winning end of one of the most exciting Super Bowls in history with a 35-21 victory over the New England Patiots. It was the day that Packers management announced that Bart Starr was their new head coach and general manager, becoming only the 8th head coach in the storied franchises 58-year history. During the following press conference, Starr said, "I'm absolutely ecstatic about this opportunity and I want to thank the Executive Committee for giving it to me. I'm humbled by it, but I'm not awed by it. I'm not as qualified as I'd like to be, but I'm willing. I ask for the prayers and the patience of all Packer fans. We will earn everything else." The year ahead was not what the Packers Management and loyal legion of fans were looking for as they finished in 3rd Place in the NFC Central Division.
