Where us simple two leggeds see, hear, smell, taste, touch & yes instinctively sense, the beings who came before us and civilazation, all the beauty and perils of the natural world. To be surrounded by spruce, fir, beech, birch, cedar, elm & oak. Or amoungst the rushes and willy wogs, alder thickets and boggy swamps. The high rocky barrens, speckled with ponds & beaver dams. This being best done on two feet, or better at times in the traverse of a canoe with 2 paddles. "Proper packing in" is certainly an essential element when portaging beaver dam spillways and ponds and lakes connected by streams seeking their ultimate destination at the sea. Here in such a mode & manner, a person can relearn what people as a modern collective whole are sadly but quickly forgetting. "That a time, a very long time before now... when the Creator mystery choose more then the void. And let there be light... the fire of the sun. The wind/air was Creators scared breath. Water ....in all forms fluid and vapor and solid... And let us not forget mother Earth. So Creator 1st made "life" this 1st form was the Stone people. All that the stone people needed to be themselves was the 4 elements sun/fire, wind/air, water & earth... and they lived & lived a long long time. This is good, and Creator next made..."the Plant people" these things that grow with the same exact things the Stone people needed With one exception... the plants also needed the nutriments the stones gave as offerings due to their long lifes exposure to the elements. Smiling, the Creator next gave life to the swimmers & crawly things, the four legs and many leggeds, fins ~ feathers~ & fur... A wonderful abundance and spectacular "Creativety" and variation amongst these many species that roam this earth. Ah... but they where not only depent on these four vital elements essential to those that came before them. No no they more. These creatures ( note the honor to Creator even in their name) needed the plants, minerals & eachother to surrive and thrive. Last, the Great Mystery of the Creator determined that the next people to come by the grace of Almighty Creation, being the one life form that will be the most dependent on the sustainablity and continuation of all those that came before, would best be suited to protect this living conditon and made "the Two Leggeds" By camping in a primitive way, if a person is so inclined to do so ~ that hard wired, God given connection to all Creation and those who we so easily forget ~ owe our lives. Begin once again to reestablish the bond between all creation. I do not believe that the choice to leave us as stewarts & protectors was done without grace and blessings. Go then, those who have such an inclination and touch the earth in a primative way showing honor and respect for your station in life. " That is all I have to say! Only In MainePosted Jan-16-08 13:03:14 PST Updated Jan-16-08 13:15:17 PST Only in Maine . This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick, although during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always comes home. http://www.ellensplace.net/rogers.html
McIntosh & Golden Delicious on the same tree.Posted Jan-16-08 10:56:10 PST Updated Jan-16-08 11:04:24 PST Seems like the closest thing to messing with genetically engineered crops & livestock that this simple man ever wants to consume is this. I know one one particular old apple tree here in Penobscot Bay that yields both varities of Mac's & Goldens. I harvest some of these sweet fruits every fall. I reckon that grafting can be considered genetic alteration, but I feel much better trusting the tree with roots in mother earth, and the cycles of the seasons. Things that depend on good water, sunlight, bees on gentle breezes, and nutraments from the soil, then those things that occur behind closed lab doors of corporate chemists & wall street speculators. "There is not a better day in the world to be spent than with a lot of wise old cowmen around barbecued beef, black coffee and good "free holy" beans."
