That's cool. My ex-husband's cousin used to do that for gifts for co-workers. She always had the neatest stuff. One year she crocheted and startched snowflake ornaments, and one years she made these cute stuffed Christmas stockings that were ornaments.

Hi agreene, I actually took a jewelery-making class years ago. I was horrible at it. My brother, however, also took it and he made the neatest stuff.

Chick I do the same thing too. We have a group of gals 12 that made for each other and swap each year. Also like a Cookie Exchange. I miss those days. Mormon Women usually have all the fun. LOL I left the church about 5 years ago miss the church social actives but kept my friends.

Hi ps, angel*dust, ewanna, and nana! A family stitch! Wow, that is really interesting. I have crocheted a lot of afghans. I think it is very soothing to crochet. ps, my parents have a friend who is 90 years old and he has taken up embroidering. He seems to really enjoy it. My parents don't think he is very good at it, however, his daughter sells his stuff at craft shows!

I crochet and knit, but I like crocething more. I make afghans too. I'm currently making one for my daughter and new son-in-law, with some very very nice yarn. I used to embroider, but haven't done that for years.

I love old people, Thanks for sharing that reminds me: I had a 91 year old neighbor that I would let her polish my nails, Yes they looked a mess but I could redo them in a jiffy and she would brag that she did my nails to her other friends, they would just marvel at what a good job she did. It would make her day in more ways than one. Mine too.

Hi palmtree! That's great, your daughter and SIL will love & cherish your afghan, I am sure. I have some people made for me when I was first married about 25 years ago and they are very special to me.

ps, great story! One thing I have learned by watching my parents get older it isn't easy to be old. Just about everything hurts, body parts no longer work right, and most of the people they ever knew are dead. It is making me (I hope) more patient and tolerant with the elderly and to put more of an effort into being social with them.
