How to use

I wonder if anyone reads this ...

So if some of you might remember, I started selling Nixoderm several years ago and was the 1st person to actually sell it on ebay. Now it is available on several sites and many people have benefited from it. I was the 1st person to suggest it for acne and pimples, but as we all know that the FDA is a wholly owned subsidiary of the pharmaceutical industry of the US, I was forced into not being able to mention it for that.

I still get alot of questions about how to use it and whats best. I hope i can help here.

The most common way of using it is every nite as a mask, smear it on and go to sleep. A very thin layer is all that is needed and  a thick layer for spot treatments. Nixoderm is strong, so it will sting, not just from the menthol but from the acids as well. It should go away in awhile but for others with more sensitive skin it will become red. This will go away too and you can soothe it away with creams for sensitive skin that contains chamomile or an oat extract.

You can actually use it in the day too, I do. But only a thin film goes on that it is almost clear. If you don't go out in the sun or are running around in the office, this should work and this thin film will make a difference too.

TIP:

For those of you that want to take a break from Nix for awhile becos you find it too strong and it irritates the skin too much, try Weleda's Calendula Diaper Care. It comes in a large 2.8 oz tube that pratically lasts forever, much the same way Nixoderm will. It has Calendula and Zinc Oxide that is soothing to skin. Zinc Oxide is an astringent on skin so it will dry the skin out. This also follows that it will dry out pimples and blemishes and post scars. It is a gentle product and will work slowly. ZnO (Zinc Oxide) is also anti-bacterial and works as an anti-bac. I am not sure about this but I think that some of the ZnO will spontaneously dissocate on the skin so that the Zn can be absorbed into the skin cells and used as enzymes to improve skin immune health. As you know, Zn is very important in the body for our immune system, but ZnO is very poorly absorbed in the gut, other forms are better.

And one more advantage of ZnO is that it has some SPF to it, and at 10% in the Weleda formulation puts it at about at least SPF 15. So try it when Nixoderm gets too rough on the skin and you want to go gentle for awhile.

Another product is Jason's Apricot Scrubble. Both these products are under $10 each. This is recommend by a reviewer on acne.org, but I have been using it myself  and it does work. It helps to remove last traces of the Nixoderm in the morning for those that use it at nite. Just use it as a scrub LIGHTLY, since you might be using it every day. But honestly the Nixoderm that I sell is from Malaysia/Singapore and is the latest formulation. It has the least amount of complaints when is comes to removing the product from the skin. Having said this, Nixoderm cannot be blamed becos it is specifically made to 'adhere firmly to the skin'(from leaflet in the Nix box). This is how and why it works so well.

Anyway hope my comments out here help you in whatever small way to your goal of better clearer skin. I have been using it for minor skin issues all over my body since I was a kid. As a teenager I was amazed at how it used to turn pimples and acne on my skin into whiteheads. Actually even now, I am still amazed by it when I see it work.

I'll never sell Benzoyl Peroxide

I think by now, most people that use Benzoyl Peroxide have researched enough about the product to know about its side effects. They just don't want to talk about it or admit it. Much like the elephant in the middle of the room. Other 'brands' on Ebay offer Benzoyl Peroxide as the 'right thing to do' when it comes to acne. Because it is cheap and it works, I don't think I will ever sell it. I know I am going to get flake for this aticle, if it ever gets read, but I'm going to go ahead and write it up anyway. I know that to many of you Benzoyl Peroxide works, but in long and regular use, it haa cumulative negative effects on the skin.

Peroxides are unstable compounds of water and oxygen. It breaks down under heat and light. As it breaks down, the oxygen free radical is generated and let loose on the skin. These free oxygen radicals are what kill the P. acne bacteria. This is where the anti-bacterial properties of peroxides come from. Peroxides also bleach hair and skin by oxidation. It also dries the skin out too, sometimes very badly. So if you are wondering about all the Anti-oxidant supplements that people are taking nowadays, then you are also probably beginning to wonder why you are using a Pro-oxidant to treat acne on your skin, and on your face of all places. Without anti-oxidants to stop the chemical process, the free oxygen radicals start a cascade of chemical reactions on your skin. Destabilising skin membrane and the the epidermal layer in general. To put it simply, it speeds up the aging of your skin each time you use a Benzoyl Peroxide product to treat your acne. Think about it, some of you would have already noticed it simply by looking at the what happens to your skin each time you apply it. Young, healthy skin is capable of retaining water and being moist, skin treated with Benzoyl Peroxide is Not.

Why is it so ubiquitiously on shelves everywhere ? I suppose because it is cheap to make. But even until 10 yrs ago, Clearasil was manufacturing a product with a formulation very close to Nixoderm's. It contained yellow sulphur and salicyclic acid. I am completely baffled and lost as to explain why the shift. Also I note that the shift is only in this country (US).

I think that the idea that you have to treat your skin with an acne product that speeds the aging of your skin is unnecessary. And that to think that peroxides don't really age your skin is an ignorant lie. Ask any doctor, pharmacist or chemist and they will tell you that. My point, at the end of all this is, consider Sunkissed Jealousy. It is a completely different mode of action (path of reation) and actually recommended for inflammed sensitive acne skin. It kills the P. Acne bacteria Beacuse it is an anti-oxidant, not in spite of it.

Btw, if Benzoyl Peroxide kills the Acne bacteria, has anyone ever thought of using Hydrogen Peroxide ? At 3% solution it is very potent stuff and is dirt cheap compared to Benzoyl Peroxide products. Afterall Hydrogen Peroxide is used to clean wounds and cuts, besides just bleaching hair. I use it to bleach my skin sometimes and I am always amazed at how fast it works.

Nixoderm and Hyperpigmentation

Hi I recently saw a review on Nixoderm http://acne.org/rate_item.php?item_id=237 that said that it causes hyperpigmentation. I am unaware of this, has this happened to anyone else ?

Thanks.

Nixoderm for Psoriasis, Eczema and Seborrheric Dermatitis

Some of you have written to me about how well Nixoderm has worked for the above skin conditions. It is probably the high Sulphur content in Nixoderm that is beneficial. Sulphur soaps are good in this way except that you would want it to be in contact with the skin longer.

I am mentioning these skin conditions in this blog because I have a greater concern and that is that skin conditions are hardly representative of any illness on their on, they reflect what is going on inside you. And these skin conditions are particularly worrying. I would say that most of you that have any of the above skin conditions would also have allergies or perhaps maybe an underlying chronic illness. How do I know this ? Because on their own, Psoriasis, Eczema and Seborrheric Dermatitis, are catagorised as Auto immune diseases or illnesses. Basically your immune system is not working well and not functioning as well as it should be. There could be a whole host of reasons as to why this is so, but it usually starts with a virus, bacteria or infection. Alopecia(hair loss) and Acne can be considered immune diseases in this way too. The skin reflects whatever is going on internally, and basically what is going on inside you is not right. So it shows up on the surface.

In the name of approaching things from a holistic point of view, you need to see to those issues too. In the long run you will lead a more healthy and vibrant life. Please feel free to email me or respond to this blog.

Nixoderm and its Insert

Ok Tip 1: Don't follow the instructions that are in the leaflet attached to the box. They are kinda outdated. Use Nixoderm as a mask and leave it over nite. Wash it off the next morning. Force it into each and every single pore that you see on your skin. :-)
