Radio Waves

Welcome to the Radio Waves Blog!

Hi and Welcome aboard!

You've found the Radio Waves blog and I hope you will take a few minutes to let us know what you enjoy about radio and what your radio interests and hobbies are.

I am an Amateur Radio operator and enjoy talking to long distance friends over the magic of the airwaves. I also have recently developed a passion for tube radios of all sorts and will be spending the winter learning about restoration and hopefully returning some of the old beauties back to working condition. I'm very new at this, so I will be looking to some of you experts out there for "tips and tricks".

Feel free to add a comment in here from time to time and maybe we can make some new friends and help each other as we buy and sell on eBay.

There are so many aspects of radio to share and I await your posts to get this Blog started.

Talk to you soon!

Denham

Howdy! I hope you'll share some of your finds (at least some photos) so we can see your collection.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but I've been after Dad to let me sell a couple of their old radios that would be from the 50s. If so, you might keep an eye on our auctions in case he lets me do it!

Wow! 3 posts already! Thanks very much, gang!

I hope we can manage to exchange some good information, good stories and hopefully some good fun! As "adamsotr" says, I'll try to put up some photos of some of my eBay purchases in their "before" and "after condition. I'm no expert at restoration yet, but I'm working on a nice Philco battery powered (farm) radio that I think will turn out quite nice.

Hi, rosecamera! I know what I would say if I were Dad...lol

And as for the Ham radio courses, enchanting_imagery, the one I took was simply 100 questions that were taken from a question bank. I studied all the questions in the question bank and managed to get through on my first try. Ham radio is fascinating! There's so many things you can do with radio. I'll talk about them here once in a while, one at a time if anyone is interested.
Well, it's 11:35 here in St. Bruno, Quebec, so I'll sign off for now and wish you all well for the days ahead.
Talk to you soon!

Well, it's getting close to Christmas and I think we'll see some slow down in the activity on eBay as people prepare for the holidays.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Christmas and may the joy of the season stay with you a little longer than boxing day...

Merry Christmas one and all!

Hey, quit bidding on that Philco boomerang turntable I'm trying to snag! Kidding, of course, bid all you want but understand I'm a bitter loser...I collect post war plastics for the most part myself, though I have a few prewar wooden models including a Philco 38-610. Without realizing it, I seem to be focusing on Motorals and Philco now. Haven't restored any battery sets - let me know how it goes!

Best of luck and see you around eBay.

Hi Bloggers!

Hi Louisvilleboy! I haven't laid my hands on any of the boomerang radios or phonographs, yet. I picked up a nice 46-1201 Bing Crosby radio phonograph that will go in my office. One of the ideas I have is to incorporate the display of my radios with the original advertising of the day. I think you can pick up advertising for a lot of the Philco radios and frame them to hang above your radios. Makes a nice display!

Hi buddybandy! Congratulations on getting your license! There's lots of equipment for sale on eBay, but don't forget to check out any Hamfests close to home. Sometimes you will get a better deal there and you can negotiate for a better price. If you have your eye on a radio, check out the other hams around to see if they are also interested. If there is a crowd checking out the radio, you may want to jump in quickly and buy it at the asking price. If no one is milling around and not showing much interest, don't be shy to make an early offer a bit lower than you are prepared to pay. If it's accepted, great! If not, try to wait and see how it goes for the seller. If he's not selling much and there's still not much interest in the radio, you may get your price late in the show. Don't worry, he will remember what you offered originally and if you come back near the end of the show and offer a bit more, he may take it thinking that you may not go any higher. At this time, you should also ask "What's your best price?" And, if it still isn't what you have set as your budget for this radio, walk away. You'll find something else.
In other words, be patient!!

Thanks for writing folks and have a great day!

Hi Charlie!

Thanks for checking in! I sometimes forget to keep an eye on this forum to see who stops by. I'm not a huge seller, but I try to put a few things on every now and then. My friend and I look for small items at Hamfests that we can buy at good prices, then see who needs them on eBay.
I sometimes take a table at Hamfests and try to sell a few things that way, but the last one I went to I only sold for $20.00. It was a big waste of time. So, I'll stick to eBay. It's the best way to sell and buy!
I just bought an ICOM IC-746 from a fellow in Florida via eBay and everything went great. This is my dream radio (for now...lol)and it arrived perfectly. The only problem was that I was charged tax by the authorities, so I'll try to make a claim to get it back.
I like to work 20 meters and 75/80 from time to time. My summer project will be to come up with a better antenna system.
Anyway, take care for now and 73 de va2ham.

Stop by anytime!

I love collecting vintage audio equipment. Especially old tape recorders. I have videos on YouTube of them. My YouTube name is CassetteMaster.

Hi stevewkline!
Thanks for adding a quick note! I enjoy hearing what people are collecting and what their interests are.
I'll go check out YouTube and see some of your collection. If I see or obtain any other vintage tape recorders, I'll get in touch with you.
Thanks for visiting!
