Most Recent Posts National Geographic - May 1918Posted Jun-24-08 09:41:09 PDT This week I aquired a poorly preserved copy of NatGeo from May 1918. It was missing the fron and back cover, pages were discoloured, foxing throughout, and the occasional tear (but what can you expect for under $5). Needless to say, I absolutely love the character or a book that looks like it's been read a number of times. I didn't feel bad disassembling the spine, honestly. Staples are really difficult to remove after they've had 90 years to rust! I've already matted the photographs from the first few pages, but I'm taking my time picking matting and frames for the incredible amount of illustrations! I'm running out to the matting store this week to pick out a few new colours. This week I've also aquired 4 books from an estate sale: If Mice Could Fly, Moon Mouse, Timmothy and His Mouse, and a copy of Beatrix Potter's basic stories. Oh, and I impulse-bought a piano. Yea, an upright, solid ebony piano from roughly the 1950's. I've never purchased a piece of furnature for myself before, but it looked well-loved and I've always wanted to learn how to play. It's a Hardman & Peck, I purchased it for $100. I have no idea what it's worth, but, after I graduate college and move out on my own, I'll have a piano and a ton of framed prints if nothing else. O, and I will be coming into some Schmuzer prints soon enough! <3 |
