Most Recent Posts Seeking a RARE Humpty Dumpty toy from the late 70's / early 80's.....Posted Jun-15-08 00:57:49 PDT Updated Jun-15-08 01:54:37 PDT I always say....."If you can't find it on eBay, maybe it doesn't exist." Yet, in 8 years of searching....I cannot find a trace of this particular toy from my early childhood. It's not the typical Humpty Pull-Toy from the 80's or the blue, green, and red toy that "pops" off the wall made in the early 90's. It's a much more rare version of the latter one mentioned. I've even gone out of my way to locate some Humpty experts here on eBay, and only one has yielded me a few photos of said toy, but no leads on where to get one, who made it, when it came out, or how much it could be worth. Since I can't post a photo here, I'll describe it in fine detail. It consists of 7 pieces in total. It has a wall base that has a pole sticking straight upward, and is spring-loaded. The egg part is one bottom half (Yellow), a top half with a face etched in black ink onto it (also yellow), a belt mid-secton (blue) and a top hat (also blue). The last 2 pieces are 2 white legs that danlgle from the small slits between the bottom half and the belt mid-section. The egg pices all have a hole running through the center of them, so when put it all together, it slides onto the pole that is sticking up from the wall. When a lever is pushed (or pulled) on the side, the spring system shoots the egg up off the pole, and it flies apart in mid-air. I don't remember when or where I got it. All I know is that I played with it quite a bit between that ages of 3 and 6. (1978-1981) The memories are quite foggy since I was so young, but I cannot forgot how much I absolutely loved this toy. (It was the center of my world...until I discovered "Star Wars", but that's a whole other blog.) The fact that I own such an extensve collection of 70's/80's era toys from my own childhood....it's a shame that I've yet to locate this Holy Grail. If ANYONE has seen this toy...EVER....or can give at least some mfg info about it, it would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from anyone on this..... -Anthony- EDIT: DUH.....here are the pics.... ![]() ![]() Power Sellers...Yay or Nay?Posted Jun-15-08 00:10:13 PDT Updated Jun-15-08 00:13:58 PDT I've been an eBay addict for 8 years now, and mostly as a buyer. Rarely do I get involved in an all out BAD transaction that makes me search for other auction sites. However, of all the bad experiences I've had...ALL have one thing in common; Power Sellers. I'm not saying that ALL Power Sellers leave a bitter taste in my mouth, but all bitterness I have comes from the robotic-like auctionside manner of Power Sellers. Communication: These are definitely the worst culprits. I rarely get responses, unless I've filed some sort of dispute. The only communication you'll usually see from a PS is a very impersonal, automatic response. Quality: The quality of the product is often less than accurately described, and more often an issue than with eveyrday users. They also tend to post "stock" photos of items rather than the ACTUAL item you're buying. No-Shows: Again, the few times I bought something and never saw it.....were Power Sellers. Feedback: Recently, eBay has re-formatted its feedback calculating formulas, which has really put these Power Sellers in their virtual place. If you haven't noticed the change yet, I challenge you to find a PS that has a feedback rating above 97% these days. Something I had been complaining about since day one. Sure, they may sell 1,000 items a week, but when even 2 of those items are getting negative feedabck A WEEK....that's a VERY BAD thing! Percebtage-wise, it may be a small number, but any real business with that many complaints in their file system would surely be reported to the BBB within a month. Third-Party Checkout: NOTHING is more annoying than having those few extra clicks of the checkout proces, and that's without mentioning if you have to re-fill out ALL your billing and shipping info! Sure...there are worst things in life, but when the rest of your transactions flow back and forth to Paypal seamlessly, these third-party systems are terribly unneccesesary. In conclusion....well, I guess I'm looking for answers and responses. If you're a Power Seller....or even just a regular user. I think if most people stuck just stopped bidding on anything from a seller that has less than 97% feedback, Power Sellers will quickley become a thing of the past OR they'll be forced to actually pay attention to that little thing called Customer Service. We'll see. :) -Anthony- |
