I have recently housed two Monarch caterpillars. In this big pickle jar:





As you can see, one formed a chrysallis on the side there... and she "hatched". A girlie monarch flew off into the Royersford community Friday afternoon. :-)Friday morning, as we were starting our day, we saw that the chrysalis had turned transparent. I knew our butterfly would be "born" that day, so I took the jar into work with me. Around 12:30 she came out of her chrysalis, and I saw the whole thing, AND I took pictures!!!

She sat on the bush outside my office window for about 3 hours. I saw her opening and closing her wings, so I ran outside to try and get a picture of her with her wings spread, but just as I pointed the camera, she launched into the air and flew up and up. She glided like a pro! I was so proud of her :-)We still have one more chrysalis to go. I hope this one comes out next weekend so the kids can see!
