Unique Maritime Treasures

The staff at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum has been knocking off the dust and sweeping up the cob webs in preparation for another busy tourist season!  In the process, we have discovered many unique treasures that we are putting up for auction on eBay.

You can see all of our maritime related auctions at our new Auctiva store, Pier 75 Online.

Experience Great Lakes maritime history at the largest maritime museum in the Midwest and the only Smithsonian affiliate in Wisconsin!  Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum offers visitors a unique and memorable place to spend hours learning about the sailors, shipbuilders, and submariners who made that history and to have a great deal of fun!

Founded in 1970 as the Manitowoc Submarine Memorial Association, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum has grown into one of the largest maritime museums in the Midwest. In addition to commemorating the maritime heritage of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers area and the submarines built here during World War II, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum is now a leader in preserving the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region.

With over 60,000 square feet of space, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum explores the rich maritime history of Wisconsin through exciting and interactive exhibits. A unique collection of model ships and boats, an operating triple-expansion steam engine, displays of historic vessels and marine engines, and the Wisconsin Waterways and Little Lakefarer's Rooms – special places for children of all ages to learn and play!  Pier 75 Museum Store is stocked with a wide variety of unique maritime gifts and souvenirs to make the visit memorable.

Get an up-close look at life in the "silent service" by touring the nation’s most completely restored WWII submarine, USS COBIA.  The submarine is similar to the 28 submarines that were built in Manitowoc during the war.  Guided tours are 45 minutes in length and conducted seven days a week, weather permitting, throughout the year.  Visitors tour the submarine from bow to stern, passing through seven compartments and learning about the bravery, courage, and sacrifice of the men who served.

Manitowoc and Two Rivers—where the Lakeshore begins—take the scenic shortcut to Door County or travel I-43 to Packerland. Ideally located along Interstate 43, Manitowoc is just 70 minutes from Milwaukee, 60 minutes from Door County, and 40 minutes from Green Bay.
