It was a beautiful day here in the Mountains...

As I was driving across the mountains today I saw that the leaves are just beginning to turn to there Autumn Glory !!

Soon it will be lovely !!

Kimberley Kim Harrell High Jump Olympics

Hi all who venture this way !!

I received a request to tell a Track & Field story from Tiffanyboxes801....So I will share with ya'll a story about my Track and Field past !! 

Well it was 1983 and I was a young Marine -- Proudly serving my country and just married to a handsome stud of a Marine.  He made my heart go pitter patter then.  Life was good.

Track season rolls around and I am sent to Camp Pendelton, California to train and compete on the US Marine Corps All Marine Track & Field Team and the United States All Interservice Track & Field Team. It was an outstanding track season, I met and competed with Jackie Joyner (before she added the Kersee) and Florence Griffith (before she added the Joyner).  I was jumping high and running fast and enjoying life !!

The US Marine Corps published an article about my track and field exploits in the HQMC Hotline (the newsletter for Marines) and the article title was WONDER WOMAN MARINE ! (now you all know the real secret of where my ID really came from).  The title came from a track meet we had between the USMC and the USN (Navy)...I won 5 individual events (High Jump, 100m Hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m ) and ran anchor leg on 3 winning relay teams ( 4 x 100 , 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relay).

Here is a picture I dug out of a memory box.

During that season I jumped high enough to make the Olympic 'A' qualifing standard. Which all but guarantees me a spot on the 1984 Olympic team. The season is great and then my newly wed handsome husband was sent on a deployment to Japan for 6 months.  Track season ended and I was sent back to my Permanent duty station to be a regular Marine again!  The year marches on and training continues. 

Then Wooo Hooo it is 1984.. the Olympic year !! My handsome Marine comes home from Japan in late January and the Marine Corps sports unit at HQMC, Washington DC notifies me that they have contacted the USOC and if I should win a medal at the Olympics they are going to possibly allow me to wear my uniform for the medal ceremony and the Marine Corps will use it for future recruiting tape.  It is all exciting.

The Marine Corps is going to send me to Camp Pendleton to train and prepare for the 1984 season and hopefully the Olympics which will be held in Los Angeles.  I get permission to travel home, for a 4 day weekend, to visit my Mom and Dad before leaving.  I get sick on the road trip home....I am a very health conscious person and rarely get sick...so, off to the Doctor I go. 

After some tests, my Doctor, who has taken care of my since I stop seeing my Pediatrician walks into the room with this big smile on his face !! I sit there with my Mom and my Husband, thinking why is he smiling when something is wrong with me and track season is just on the horizon.  He says, well Kimberley, good news...your not sick your pregnant !! I think Oh My Gosh -- I look at my husband, I look at my Mom and I am so happy inside.  Then it occurs to me....OMG....The Olympics....I'll be 6.5 months pregnant when they happen...OMG....OMG...what will I do !!

So, I missed the 1984 Olympics that year and gave birth to a beautiful Baby Boy in October 1984...That handsome young man whose picture is posted on an earlier blog post of mine.  He is my Gold Medal !!

Someday, I'll tell you the story of his friends in middle school finding out this story ...but that will wait for another day !!

Lunch Time in Tennessee !!!

Today is a cool and rainy day here in Tennessee !

Lunch for today is a nice Grilled Cheese Sandwich (made with PepperJack Cheese) and a bowl of Tomato Bisque Soup with a dollop of Sour Cream in the center and sprinkled with crushed fresh dill.

Yum, Yum one of my favorite cool weather lunches.

Just wanted to share this moment...

I was in the sunroom taking pictures for some listings I need to get done.

In walks my tall (6'6") Handsome son.....He hands me a shopping bag and say "Here Mom, I got you something'.....I look at him with a puzzled expression...Because if you raised boys, you know they generally buy something when they are prompted and reminded to, not generally 'just because' ! LOL

I open up the bag and this is what was in there....A vintage wash T-Shirt with -- Yes, you guessed it WONDER WOMAN !!

I said Wow, Son that is lovely, Why did you do that?  His response was "I wonder Mom !!"

What a Sweetie ......

Well, I have been selling on eBay for less than a year now....

I got my first Neutral Feedback !!

Bummer !!  The buyer never contacted me at all after receiving the item but just left that feedback.

The item was a gorgeous antique bronze & crystal chandelier (my personal from the old dining room, before the remodel).

It is a beautiful thing and sold for next to nothing !

The buyer was in Canada.  I packaged it very well and shrink wrapped the entire chandelier. She has not yet contacted me about the Chandelier, just left the feedback.

In her feedback she stated that some of the crystals were broken and in the bottom of the box.  But I don't think that would be possible....Because I shrink wrapped it very very thouroughly and packed it very well. 

The only thing I can imagine happened is that Customs opened it for examination and then did not re-wrap it. 

The item was insured and sent via airmail.  I don't know if she will file an insurance claim or not, as she hasn't contacted me nor responded to my emails !

Good Morning To all who wander this way !!

It is a beautiful morning....the temp is supposed to be wonderful again today Mid 70's with a wonderfully cool breeze.

I started out this morning already behind because I didn't finish my TO DO list yesterday....No worries....I just decided to throw that list away... and start the day with a fresh slate and started a new TO DO list... LOL... No Worries...No longer behind !!!

BTW, I loved speaking  for the Girl Scout's yesterday....I did a Blog about it last night (go see if you have a minute) and I also made a guide out of the hand out I created for them !! (go see that too, if you have another minute) !!

Hey there Bloggers ! How is everyone ?

I just got home from my Volleyball match....quick match over in 3. 

As I told you earlier, I was the guest speaker for a Girl Scout Troupe this afternoon.  They are all attempting to earn their "court sport" badge.  I was the guest speaker and then they were attending a High School Freshman Volleyball match after. 

It was great.  I wrote a hand out for them titled '7 Reasons To Get Involved In Sports' .  (I am going to make the handout a Guide later tonight, look for it please)

The girls were very receptive as I reviewed the points on the handout for them and we had some wonderful discussion about Girls in Sports in general and what sports they all participated in ....the range was far and wide....Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Cheerleading, Dance, Soccer, & Baseball.  What fun it was discussing with the girls, soon to become young ladies the benefits of being in sports. 

Then came the question and answer segment !!  I was about lauging out loud at some of the questions.  They were more interested in asking specific questions about my officiating Volleyball than general sports questions.

My first question fielded was....'What is the hardest thing for you when you referree, is it when a Coach gets mad and yells at you ? '  I had to just smile for a moment.  My answer was 'That is a very good question and yes that is the about the hardest thing for an official.  Because I can't get upset and mad back at the Coach and I can't be mean to the girls on that team and take it out on them.  I have to make sure I stay calm and remain fair to both teams, even if the Coach does yell at me. Because it wouldn't be fair to those girls that are out there playing hard to be unfair to them just because there Coach is not being nice."  The girls all decided that it would be hard not to be able to get mad back and it was very good that I was fair !!

Next came the all famous question ... 'Have you ever thrown a Coach out of the gym?' answer 'Yes' follow up question 'ohhh...Why did you throw him out?' 

All in All I think the girls really enjoyed it and learned something about sports, volleyball and officials.  I know I really enjoyed it. 

I am going to go try to do that guide now.....Hope you all had a WONDERFUL DAY !!

GOOD DAY to all who wander this way !!

It was a foggy, foggy morn here in Tennessee....the fog actually just lifted a little bit ago! Wow, wonder if that means we will have lots of snow this winter ?

Today is a busy, busy day.  When I think of that I always get a mental picture of the magician in Frosty the Snowman running haphazardly away from Santa saying "I've got to get Busy, Busy, Busy !!"  LOL (one of my favorites)

I have pictures to take, packages to pack, shipments to get out !! Wooo Hooo

This afternoon I am the guest speaker for a troupe of Girl Scouts !!  I am excited about that !! They are attempting to earn their badge on "Court Sports" and I will speaking to them about Volleyball !!  What fun we shall have.  I have a college match to officiate tonight, so I plan to wear my uniform for the meeting.  I think the girls will enjoy that !!

Well I have to get going or I won't get accomplished all I have intended to !!

I think the rain has finally left us !!

The sun is peeking out over the Mountain Tops with fluffy white clouds in the sky !!! Gone are the grey rainclouds of the weekend.  It rained the entire weekend here !!

Sadness abounds in these Mountains of Tennessee.

A Wonderful young man, a friend of my oldest son, is gone. There was a tragic accident and his life was taken at the young age of 25.

He was a handsome young man with such a zest for life.

Always smiling, a little mischevious, always having fun.

He was a gentleman as well, when he went off to college, he went to my Alma Mater, where he was a star on the Football team. When he would see me on campus for athletic events, he was always curteous and made a point to come up and say Hello, smile and chat a while.  Not a common virtue for one so young, college co-ed's are generally very self immersed and all about themselves. 

My son is having a hard time with the loss of his friend.  When I told him about his death, he responded "He can't be dead Mom, I just spoke to him last week on the computer". I have never had to face this, the death of a friend at such a young age.  My son has lost 4 of his classmates now.  One to Lukemia, 2 to traffic accidents and now this one.  When getting ready to go to the funeral, my son was getting dressed and felt quesy and had to run to the bathroom to throw up. It is so hard to see him have to face this loss and I need strength to help him through it.

I pray that I may be given the strength and the wisdom to help my son through it. 

This young man was an only child and the light of his parents life.  I can not comprehend and can only begin to imagine the pain, shock and heartbreak they must be feeling. Just the thought of losing either of my sons and I can't breath. 

We are sad at the loss of one of our young men here in the Mountains.  He will be forever young in our memories, forever smiling.

She does a WONDERFUL Job on 'About ME' pages.  She made mine....and many others.  I didn't have one when she made mine and made it from scratch....I just sent her 3 pictures and a rough idea of what I wanted and Poof !! Quick as a flash, she had it made.  I had some trouble getting it put on eBay....and a quick email to White Wave and she did it for me !!!

White_Wave21 then made me a Blog Banner, that I love !!!

I don't have an eBay store...but she made me a logo for my eBay invoices and emails....So now when a buyer gets that end of item email.....There is my WonderWoman Logo staring at them, and when they receive my invoice...there again is my logo.

I also am the proud owner of several of her original ACEO's featuring the cutest MerMaids !!!

Her art work is stunning !!!

Good Morning -- It's Saturday !!!

It is a foggy, (going to be rainy) morn here in the Mountains of Tennessee !!

I am headed across the mountains to the West for a College Volleyball Tri Match today !! It will be lots of great fun, I will be working with another great official and it should be some wonderful volleyball !!

I hope you all have a WONDER - FUL Day filled with love and joy !!
