You probably have heard your friend talking about how happy he/she is with the yorkie he/she bought just recently. This is not surprising because those inquisitive, tiny yorkies are absolutely endearing and adorable. Yorkies usually weigh about 7lb, with some heavier and some even lighter.  

However, you have to remember that yorkies are only tiny in structure because the personality, courage and loyalty of a yorkie are often more than that of a dog weighing 110lb. Yorkies are remarkably smarter than any other dog and even though they are small, these tiny yorkies make outstanding watch dogs. Where the Yorkshire terrier originated is not really certain but these tiny yorkies are believed to have originated in England. They belong to the terrier group and some people believe that these dogs were once used to hunt rats. Because these yorkies are stubborn characters, some people who don’t know them often accused them of being difficult to train, however; with consistency and perseverance, training your yorkie should not be a problem for you. The earlier you train your yorkie, the better. Though very adorable, you should not forget that they are stubborn and this justifies the need to train them as early as possible. They are like those little rascals and they will try to get away with what they want as much as possible.

The nice thing about yorkies is that they adapt easily. In fact, they can fit in with any type of family; from country dwellers with big backyard to apartment tenants. Also, not because they have that “big” attitude means you have to treat them like big dogs. Avoid placing your dog on a bed or a couch or any place that is up off the floor because for sure, they will do their best to jump off and when this happens, you’ll end up rushing him to the vet.
