beaded face cabs

Yes it's been another long while since I've posted in my blog. Sometimes i need to step back and examine where i am and where i'm going. Then redirect my energy accordingly.....i'm still working on redirecting my energy and trying to decide which path to take. Sometimes the answer isn't so clear. Or maybe it is clear and i'm procrastinating.

So here's a little glimpse of one of the things i've been working on these days.... other than that, nothing new or exciting going on here ...just me and the beads...and the fabric... and the hum of the sewing machine... and me trying to avoid myself, and everyone else.

Hi zzbeadz...I have never heard of 'beaded face cabs'. Can you please tell me what
they are and what are they used for? They sure are beautiful!!! =D

Thanks,

Hi Tonya, the faces are typically made of polymer clay, glued to a stiff fabric then the fabric is beaded around the faces. They can then be used to make brooches or necklace pendants.

not sure if ebay allows offsite urls in blogland but here is a tutorial that explains in more detail how they are made...

i bought some books and have been wanting to do these myself but have not had time too look at them in depth yet. i was wondering if the square of material under the cab on the left is the size of material you started out with to bead?

Pamela, yes I start with a rather large square, of heavy interfacing, with about 1 inch all the way around the face. once i finish beading i trim away excess.

i probably won't be listing these exact ones...although i may list some in the future. if you decide to bead your own though, i do sell handpainted face cabs occasionally on ebay and my website....which you can find through my About Me page :-)
